         <description><![CDATA[<div>Another conflict that arose from the French and Indian War between the Cherokee and British in the South Carolina Upcountry. The conflict occurred after  the Cherokee felt like their treaty with the British had been broken when the British failed to protect them after French fur traders moved into the Upcountry. The British won the war, the Treaty of Charleston was created, and the Cherokee lost most of their land.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Sugar Act was a tax on imported sugar that was placed on the colonies by England. It was meant to pay off England's large debt after the French and Indian War. It stopped illegal trade with France, but smugglers arose from this conflict. They were tried in a court with no juries. Colonists felt like this was a violation of the Magna Carta. The Sugar Act was passed on April 5, 1764.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Intolerable Acts were a series of laws meant to punish the colonies for the Boston Tea Party and other protests. They were passed in 1774 and they included the Boston Port Act and Quartering Act. The Boston Port Act closed the Boston Harbor until the Boston Tea Party was paid for and the Quartering Act required British soldiers to be housed with the colonists. These laws eventually provoked the Boston Massacre and the 1st Continental Congress.</div>]]></description>

The British responded by creating the Boston Port Act of 1774. There were other protests against the tea but this was the most significant. The Sons of Liberty feared that the cheap tea would threaten the boycott so they started the Boston Tea Party.</div>]]></description>
