Installation for windows:  

Windows can be installed via a CD that can be purchased via Microsoft or various 3rd parties across the web on sites like amazon and eBay, cost varies on the version of windows. 

It can be purchased on the Microsoft site and used as a usual .exe file and it will replace the current OS when the user accepts and replaces it with itself. 

Windows can also be installed via a virtual machine using software like VirtualBox to put a fresh version of the OS on a separate instance on the PC you’re running.  

Can be installed via A fresh install using the bios of the computer to remove the current OS and instead install the OS fresh.

You can install Fedora via a URL on a Linux web server which can prompt an installation on the user’s machine and you can run it like an executable. 

You can install the OS via the command line when you put in the server location for the computer to connect to, to retrieve the necessary files for install. 

You can install the OS directly from the HDD (hard disk) on the computer if you have the ISO images for fedora so you can install via the hard disk.

Certain os’ that are Linux based may have different loading protocol and some may not work on others like the command line loading will work for most versions of Linux but not all. As well as early copies of Ubuntu might even have serial numbers similar to Window’s.
