This was made with ink on paper, with the use of a dry brush technique. This piece of work is made from bottom to top, the mid-ground on the scroll is made to make sense of where the water and flat mountains. This piece has an unfinished look by using a sketch-like appearance. Ni Zan was living a great rich lifestyle when it all came to an end due to taxes by the Mongol government. Huang retired in Hangzhou.  He wrote an essay called “The Secrets of Landscape Painting and taught philosophy. This is where he painted his mountain scroll. This painting is a handscroll, with ink on paper.

At a young age, wen was not said to be very smart. He had the very best teachers as he studied. He soon became known for his learning and was very particular about his studies. He failed the civil exam 10 times, was in a small-ranking position, and left 4 years later. Many people copied his painting when he gave it away. He died with a brush in his hand.
