1. Choose a type of irony and give an example.

2. Label your post with your group's name or number in the title.

3. Then include a line that says "We found an example of ________________ irony.

4. After that include the example and explanation of why it is the type of irony you claim it is.

One person should be your publisher and write your post. You group leader should help make sure everyone contributes. One person should edit your response before you post it. You can draft your writing on google drive if you want to all access it. Just make sure you do not run out of time.

We found an example of verbal irony. An example of verbal irony would be; “Looking at her son's messy room, Mom says, "Wow, you could win an award for cleanliness!". This is an example of verbal irony because they are saying one thing but meaning the opposite of what they to say.The mother is saying that the room is clean but is being sarcastic about the actual state of the room.

We found an example of situational irony in the picture below. This explains situational irony because the opposite of what is expected happens. The fire hydrant which is supposed to help with fires actually caught on fire, no one would expect that.

We found an example of verbal irony. The example is, “As soon as my mother told me I was going to have a baby brother I replied, ‘This is going to be an exciting experience. Nothing can be better than this.’

This is verbal irony because in the example the child is stating, “This is going to be an exciting experience,” but he doesn’t feel this way because all the attention is going to be off of him. He’ll also have to help out more around the house, help out with his mother more, and help take care of his baby brother. The child is going to have more responsibilities which is why he stated, “Nothing can be better than this.”

Dramatic Irony
Explanation: We found an example of dramatic irony. This shows dramatic irony because the audience knows that if the man takes one more step, he will fall off the cliff and die, but the man does not, and dramatic irony is when the audience knows what is going to happen next, but the character does not, so we know that this is correct.
Example:

Verbal Irony
NJ FAM

Group 6

We found an example of verbal irony.

Example: Caroline was already late to school and was in a rush. She got her book bag ready and ran outside, but the bus had left her. “Bring an umbrella!” her mother exclaimed. Caroline was already out the door. Going back to get an umbrella would only make her lose time. On her way to cross the street to school, the rain began to pour aggressively and she arrived to school soaking wet. “Oh what a wonderful day I am having!”she said sarcastically.

Explanation: This example defines the sarcasm that is being used when Caroline says “Oh what a wonderful day I am having!” In the example that we provided, Caroline was late to school, missed the bus, forgot her umbrella and was drenched from the rain that poured heavily. This signifies that verbal irony is related to sarcastically speaking or acting.
