Very eye catching! They have a shock absorbing skull to protect them while hammering against trees - they do this 'drumming' sound to claim their territory :)

There were also lots of Eiders (Somateria mollissima), the males are black and white, and the females are brown.

My dog and I managed to sneak up to the resident Sea Eagle where we live on Ben Alder Estate. He/she has been very visible around the south shore of Loch Ericht the past few months. I am unsure of the sex as size/weight seems to be the main physical difference and this is hard to distinguish with only one eagle to look at. However, I can confirm they are VERY big! I absolutely love seeing Eddie (as we have named him/her) and never loses its magic.

I went on a hike with some friends and we spotted this friend swimming about the lake even though it was quite early (3-4pm). We even found the lodge! It's a bit harder to see them now as they tend to come to the garden when I'm tucked up indoors. They are definitely more active in the day during summer months. I have been following them for several years now and look forward to each year around June, when mum brings the kits to the garden for the first time. Only one kit this year though.

But one baby stoat froze in panic, and I had to stop my car to avoid running it over. I slowed some cars down and tried to move it, but it bit me as I was moving it across the road! Did manage to get it to safety, at least.
