I think the theme is you can't always judge something by what you visually see, you should try new things like when Erika didn't like the onions until she tried them and when Linda didn't want to go skating or even try it. When she decided to go she didn't like it until she saw her dad falling and also enjoying himself. Which means I really think that the theme is you can't just judge something by what you visually see

I think the theme of the stories "Brown Onions" and "Learning to Skate" is don't judge a book by it's cover. In other words, Try new things. You don't know if you like something if you don't try it. In the story "Learning to Skate" she didn't want to go skating. She figured out she was scared. In the story "Brown Onions" Erica thought she hated onions because they smelt bad. Her dad and Erica made a deal that if Erica ate onions and hated them, she could chose anything bad tat her dad would have to eat. She was planning something gross until she tried it and liked it.

I think the theme of both these story's is don't judge a book by its cover meaning in one she thinks skating is horrible but notices her and her dad can get better at it together and might like it if they work together to get better. In the other story she says she hates onions because they smell horrible and look disgusting. Once she makes a deal with her dad and tries onions on her hamburger she notices she likes onions and wants more.

I think the theme of both brown onions and learning to skate is that you should try new things even when you are determined not to. I think that because in brown onions Erika thought that onions were disgusting even though she had never tried them. In the end though her dad and Erika make a deal that if Erika tried onions and still didn't like them that he would eat anything she wanted him to. Erika ending up loving onions and wanted more! I think that for learning to skate because Linda was determined she didn't want to go skating nor learn how. Linda and her dad ended up going and once Linda got going she thought it wasn't so bad. That's why I think that you should try new things is the theme.

They are similar because in Brown Onions the girl says she does not like onions. Then she actuality try's them and ends up liking theme. In Learning To Skate she says she doesn't like to skate, but when she try's it she has lots of fun. That how they are similar.

I think that because in brown onions the girl wound not try the onions and just by the smell and look of them she made a judgment that they would be gross, and in learning to skate she made a judgment that she wouldn't like it because she doesn't like Winter and she doesn't like the cold. Then after she saw that her dad couldn't skate either, it made her feel better about skating.

In Brown Onions she says that she hated onions. If any onions touch her tray or some food had onions she was done with it. One night she tolled her Dad how she hated onions. Her father said if you don't like them he would eat anything. When she took a bite out of the burger she ask if she could put some onions on her burger. So the theme is trying new things.
