Devprayag has a population of 2144, with 48% female, and no reproductive health clinics, which is why we chose this region. It was best to start off with a small population and work our way up after gatherings and improvements. Out of that 48%, we selected 100 girls that ranged from ages 15-21 and provided them service. Each month, a nurse from our clinic checked in with their assigned group of women, asking questions about how they are utilizing the program, the care-packages, and additional services. We monitored them over the course of a year to see if our services stunted their population growth. This is significant since sex is not easily talked about and is considered taboo. In previous years, teachers all over India would be threatened with violence if they were to teach sex-ed in school. In 2014, the Indian Health Minister was against sex education and wanted to ban it in all schools. Many schools in India did already have it banned- which goes to show how opposed sex-education was. This was overturned just recently in 2018, when the Prime Minister incorporated sex-ed in India’s school curriculum. The implementation of this framework started in 2018, and will go through 2022. Our problem-statement falls under 4 out of the 7 focus areas of the SDF; this includes education, elimination of poverty, gender equality and youth development, and health. Our goals are similiar to the SDF's, making our project ideal to collaborate and work on with the UN and India.
