Nationalism is deep devotion and loyalty to one's nation. It caused WW1 to happen when Serbian nationalists killed the Austrian heir.

Imperialism is nations competing for colonies and resources. Competition led to tension between nations and then alliances.

Alliances are agreements between parties to work together for a common goal. Alliances made the wars lethal as a conflict between two countries meant a war between almost all nations, this led to a world war.

Militarism is having a military army and weapons. Militarism meant that wars were lethal and caused many casualties.
