Jews and gypsies played a role during this time because they were the ones being transported from their homes to the ghettos Poland. Another person who played a huge role during this time was Hermann Goering, Hitler’s top commander, who was the one to suggest the wearing of the armbands with the star of David in order to identify the Jews easier. This time period was significant because although it resulted in a terrifying amount of deaths it was also the time period in which the holocaust came to an end. There was a great impact left on the world after mostly due to the holocaust. Very many lives were lost and although they were no longer being executed there was still hostility towards those groups. Although it’s hard to make a connection to the violent aspects of Nazi Germany because of how extreme it was, sources say that bits and pieces of their politics and Americas can be connected in some ways.  ��76

What is the event? 

• An incident, also known as the “Night of Broken Glass,” that occurred on November 9th and 10th, 1938 in Germany, annexed Austria, and areas in Czechoslovakia. Nazis touched Jewish synagogues, vandalized homes, schools, and business and killed close to 100 Jews.

1. What person/people were involved? What was their role?

• Jews were being attacked and their property vandalized while the German Nazi were doing the violence against the Jews.

1. What is the significance of this event?

• Herschel Grynszpan, a 17 year-old Polish Jew shot Ernst vom Rath causing Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi minister for public enlightenment and propaganda to seized on the assassinating to cause a anti-Semitic frenzy.

1. What impact did the event create?

• These events of Kristallnacht represented one of the most important turning points in the National Socialist Anti-Semitic policy. 
• After the events, anti-Jewish policy was concentrated more and more concretely into the hands of the SS.

1. What modern day connection can you make to this event

• The Iranian regime’s “Death to America” chants are very similar to the mass demonstrations held in Germany prior to Kristallnacht.
