Bosnia- Herzegovina Genocide Against Bosnian Muslim

In 1992 Bosnians declared indepedance from Yugoslavia, but the Serbians didn't want to live in a country where Muslims had the majority. The resulting civil war from 1992-1995 led to the deaths of over 100,000 muslims and one massacre. This massacre was the largest massacre that occurred since the Holocaust. NATO had a bombing campaign that led to a peace treaty called the Dayton Accords. This is similar to the Holocaust because there were massacres based on religion, just like the Jews in the Holocaust.

From the moment the communist group Khmer Rouge took control of Cambodia, hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave everything behind and were forced into slave labor in the rural fields. The goal of the Khmer Rouge was to turn the southeast Asian country into a "classless agrarian utopia". They began the killings with former government officials and racial minorities within the country. They also persecuted anyone that questioned their way of thinking and even people of Khmer Rouge were not safe. They persecuted their own people because they thought they were traitors.
Vietnam finally ended the regime with an invasion of the country, the UN also assisted the toppling of the Khmer Rouge.
The Cambodia genocide is similar to the Holocaust because ethnic and racial minorities were killed first and any of the oppressed were forced into hard labor.

Background Information- Ever since Burma became independent, the Rohingya muslim's rights were taken away and not considered citizens. The Rohingya Muslims suffer from cultural and economic oppression and are forcibly isolated to poorer states of the country. Starting in 2012 Anti-Muslim hate speech and groups took over Burma destroying the Rohingya communites.
The response- The UN in 2017 created an investigation on the crimes against humanity, but Burma's government refused to cooperate and denies all allegations.
Similarities- Both events included the segregation and dehumanization of a certain group which led to the deaths of thousands.
Picture

Background: who- The Yezidi, christian, turkmen, shabak, sabaean-mandaean are being targeted by the IS. All over Iraq, people are being killed and kidnapped by the Islamic State because of thier religion. These early stages of genocide have been happening since 2003.
World's Response: That Iraqi government is not very powerful, so the US is trying to help impede this from becoming full on genocide.
Similarities with Holocaust: An Islamic State leader ordered mass exodus of a religous group, just like Hitler.
Picture:

Syria 2011-Present

Background Information-Started as an uprising to Bashar al-Assads regime, it is now a local, national and international struggle. Syrians government has committed most of the mass atrocities, mostly to the Sunni Muslim population. Isis came in 2013 and took advantage of the chaos seizing territory. Over 10 million people have been displaced about half in the country and half are refugees. Response-The Syrian authorities and the international community have failed to protect the civilians in Syria. Their efforts have actually contributed to the escalation of violence. The Russian and Iran support for Assad victory, has enabled the regime to rein down on the civilians. The UN security can not decide how to handle the Syria situation, and the effort has failed to stop the fighting. Similarities-This conflict relates to The Holocaust because The Syrian government is targeting their civilians with an intent to kill and dehumanize.

.
