The Boston News-Letter was started on April 24th of 1704 by John Campbell. This is widely considered the first recurring newspaper in America. Every week, a new issue would be printed, until 1776. The paper had no competition in Boston until 1719, where the Boston Gazette would be printed and circulated around. These articles by the Boston News-Letter would have information from England, the mother country at the time, as well as local news in Boston. Local news topics covered in the Boston News-Letter include maritime arrivals, and activities. This newspaper was the first in the American colonies to survive, as all other newspapers did not last very long to be notable as the Boston News-Letter.

https://www.masshist.org/database/186

Penny Press

The Penny Press was a type of newspaper, traditionally sold to the public for one cent. This era of papers was started by a man named Benjamin Day in 1833. Benjamin Day started this era with New York City's famous paper, The Sun. Day's paper was cheaper by 1/6 of most other papers sold around. Because of the cheapness of Penny Press papers, this released more information to more people, as it is more affordable. Believe it or not, Day had almost no backrground in the field of journalism. A man named James Gordon Bennett, who had lots of experience in journalism, was inspired by The Sun. He was known to eventually find The Herald.

https://www.thoughtco.com/penny-press-definition-1773293

Yellow Journalism

Yellow Journalism is a phrase to describe exaggeration in a newspaper. Yellow Journalism had a peak and is the ultimate reason for Cuba and Spain to go to war with the United States in the late 19th century, otherwise known as the Spanish-American War. The action that started the war was because of the U.S. battleship called the Maine sunk in the Hasvana harbor. However, it truly sunk, according to sober observers of the incident, becasuse of an explosion from an inside source of the ship, not anything external, for example a torpedo. This is a great reason why Yellow Journalism is unhealthy for the world.

https://history.state.gov/milestones/1866-1898/yellow-journalism

Modern Journalism

Modern Journalism is the concept that journalism has evolved heavily compared to what journalism used to be. In older times, your local news information was published every morning on a newspaper, typically delivered on your front door. However, with the innovation and convience of technology, the method of delivering the news on paper is almost obsolete with the futuristic ways of recieving information on smartphones, tablets, watches and much other devices that have an internet connection. Modern Journalism today is also boosted with popular social media sites and apps, such as Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, YouTube, or even Reddit. Databases like these are ways that most teenagers and young adults recieve the gist of what happens in the modern world.

https://www.mastersincommunications.org/modern-journalism/
