My name is Jofiel Garcia, I am a graduate of South Miami Senior Highschool. In highschool I took a construction class that got me interested in architecture, this lead to my choice to intially aiming to study architecture. After I graduated I took a few months off the think about my future. during my time off I decided to get better at the hobbies I knew already like guitar and learn a few new ones painting. Later when my break from school ended, I realized that I thouroghly enjoyed mechanical and aerospace engineering I am a student of miami dade college who is studying mechanical engineering. my goal is to finish my A.A. degree in mechanical engineering to transfer into aerospace engineering and get either a bacheleors or a masters degree. Once I complete my studies I hope to have an opportunity to work in some place like NASA or Boeing.

Can this be used in biology? How?

Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning(CER) can be used in biology to help find explanations for different phenomena that goes on throughout the world. It is typically used everyday to find solutions in more than just biology. CER can help solve most problems because it grabs all the factors and takes them into account which allows the conductor of the experiment to fully understand the subject. Most scientist study animals to understand their biological clockwork and some use CER to find some of the reasons the why some animals can do certain things. For example a scientist might look at a sugar glider and wonder how they can fly/glide, so this leads to them observing and seeing that it is because of the flaps of skin between their arms and chest that allows them to glide. This scientist might test further to understand the aerodynamics of the flaps but that would be another experiment.

https://youtu.be/Qi0edf_nJDo

The things that I have learned from this video are fascinating but one piece of that information that caught my attention was that people can create herd immunity due to their immune systems surviving their encounters with the virus. It is absolutely hard to fathom the idea of hospitals being so packed with patients that doctors and nurses get in a rock and a hard place. Though there is not much they could do in those situations, they have helped buy time for scientists to create a vaccine. Once the vaccine is made only about 40-90% need to be vaccinated to create herd immunity. Even though there is a minimum everyone should still have their vaccine since it is dangerous to go about life without that protection. It is a hard pill to swallow the thought that something as small as a virus could change everything and everyone around the globe.

The Hawksbill Turtle resides in every major ocean mostly be the shoreline. This species lives within nearshore foraging grounds like healthy coral reefs or mangrove estuaries where they usually eat things like Sea Sponges, Marine Algae, Jellyfish, and etc. Hawksbill Turtles lay their eggs on the beach to protect their hatchlings fro other fish, once they hatch the newborns take to the sea and begin their lives in the Palegic habitat (open sea). These newborns take shelter in floating algal mats or in the drift lines in the ocean for 1-5 years. When the newborns become juveniles they begin to live closer to the coast in coral reefs which protects them in many ways like keeping them hidden at night from predators. They live there and grow into adults. This species is found by the shores of most countries throughout the planet and must be protected from the dangers of humanity.

https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/species/hawksbill-turtle#:~:text=Hawksbill%20turtles%20use%20a%20variety,been%20found%20in%20mangrove%20estuaries.

The Hawksbill Turtle is affected by climate change in several major ways. Ocean acidification kills coral reefs which leads to their food becoming scarce and destruction of their home. climate change also decreases the chance for turtle eggs to hatch due to the sand becoming scorching hot, which can contribute to the species endangerment.

My species, the Hawksbill Turtle has come a long way in its evolution. The Hawksbill Turtle traces back all the way to the cretaceous period. It is a relative to the Desmatochleys which is an ancestor to many species of turtles. Over time some turtle species began to grow beaks that have serrated edges, which allowed them to breakdown sponges more efficiently. Another adaptation that the Hawksbill Turtle gained was the shape of their shell. the shape of its shell allows it to maneuver through coral reefs with ease. Along with its shell improving, its flippers became stronger allowing it to swim and dive faster. With all these combined there was only one more improvement left for the species to thrive, though the last evolutionary change was a great increase to their lung capacity which combined with their flipper improvement allows them to stay underwater for several hours. All in all the hawksbill turtle gained many advantages, which made the species thrive for a very long time.
