A recent report by International Business Times discussed the outcome of a recent trial regarding Marital Rape in India.
This incident shows the role women play in an eastern society. Some areas like Gujarat, India still value the perspective of a man, and his 'need to procreate' over the well-being of their women. Women are placed in a role that has no voice, and their opinion is not valued in many matters. This attitude still runs rampant in many eastern societies, and they are lacking the basic laws that are present in western society, giving women a voice, and a right to a fair trial.

Men play a very interesting role in this area. It is quite obvious that rape against women massively outweighs the occurrences of rape against men, but it is still important to look at this topic, especially in reference to western society.
The following article brings up many first hand accounts of men being raped by women. Two particular comments caught my attention as they reference the fact that the incidents were reported yet not taken seriously. This shows the social stigma that a 'man cant be raped by a woman', and shows that developments need to be made for both genders in this area.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/2c9sfa/serious_what_is_it_like_to_be_raped_by_a_woman/cjdu8x9/

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/2c9sfa/serious_what_is_it_like_to_be_raped_by_a_woman/cjdhi8z/

This particular video is very important in exposing the role men and women in a position of power can play. The focus in on people in power in western society, most notably in Hollywood. Recently there has been a massive veil lifted revealing the sexual abuse in the music and film industry. The biggest case of this being the lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein. It was revealed that Weinstein would use his position of power to coax up and coming stars to perform unwanted sexual acts. This has gone on for decades and decades in the film industry, and was accepted as almost a rite of passage in the industry. For many years the idea of a "casting couch" has been accepted and it has taken until now to expose the brutal position some men have put women in. It also has been exposed that certain women in a position of power like Mariah Carrey were sexual abusing some men underneath them. This shows the role both men and women play when they are in a position of power.

I chose the following photo as a representation of the acceptance of sexual abuse in western society. Many men play a role of great power in western society, and arguably the most powerful person in the country is a man as well. The US has clearly shown their acceptance of man's tango with sexual abuse as they elected Donald Trump to presidency after hearing his brush sexual abuse from years past. It was exposed to the whole nation that Trump was someone who did not value the female sex as an equal, and yet the nation accepted his abuse and elected him anyway. Even now there have been reports of his infidelity, yet there has not been an impeachment or a revolt of any kind. This proves their acceptance for man to play a role of abuse over women.

The following chart shows Denmark's wage gap. There is also an article posted that goes into detail about a protest that the women have organized to bring awareness to this issue. The image clearly shows the wage gap difference between males and females, and how females lose much more after pregnancy then men. This shows the role women play in society in Denmark. Women are still viewed in a way that their primary role is caring for the children. The women in their society are still being payed much less then men, and they are forced into a role of homemakers is some instances.

https://www.thelocal.no/20171101/norwegian-danish-women-stop-being-paid-in-november-due-to-salary-gap-report

The following shows a higher percentage of men in higher paying jobs in western society. This article is very interesting as it shows that in western society, the reason their is an overall average pay gap between men and women, is because there are a higher percentage of men in jobs that pay higher overall. This skews the data as the higher percentage o men in jobs that on average pay more, makes the wage gap seem much bigger than it is. This is mainly apparent in western society where men can earn a substantial amount more in sports, engineering and doctor jobs.

Below is a video link from the first side of the argument, from CNN. The explain why there should not be a wage gap in sports, focusing on soccer. The video posted at the bottom is the other side of the argument, arguing that this issue is an economical not equality issue, and the men bring more people to the stadium, therefore earn higher pay. The gender wage gap is very large in sports, and it is apparent on a global scale. In the Olympics, Soccer, and Motorsports males earn exponentially more then women on a global scale. The video goes into great detail in how this is occurring in all sports on a global scale. It is a very interesting video because gender equality is something that most of the world is striving towards, yet this wage gap is not necessarily a hit against gender equality.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9S-33zYE_4

Men and Women's Role in African Society - Photo #3

The following is an image representing the most popular results found in google image searches for African Men and African Women. The reason I decided to investigate into this is because when searching for images of American Men and Women, it yields mostly male and female models/actresses. But, when the same is done for men and women of African decent, a large number of results appear depicting the women in a state of nurture and home making, where the men are depicted as hunters and strong. This shows the continual role of women as carers for the children and men as the 'bread winners'. This is not an exact representation of African life, but it gives a small insight into the role each gender plays in their society. This shows the continual lack in progression towards equality, whether it be through a deficit of education or a dedication to tradition, as has been discussed earlier in the course.

Again I decided to conduct the same experiment of google image search results to depict the role that men and women play in Asian society. I did not specify whether this was directed at India, China, Japan, Korea etc, but I assume China plays a large representation due to their population. What I found was the image search results showed a very similar representation to what the searches for American Men and Women yielded. It seems that the role imposed on the men and women via the media in Asian society is very much alike tot he western values of women looking like models and men being overly muscular. They too seem to strive to the same standards imposed on them by the media that the western people are subjected to. This defines the role of Men and Women as less of a career oriented person and more so one of narcissism and low self esteem. The men and women in this society face the same troubles of those in western society.

Men and Women's Role in Statistics Globally - Video #3

This video is very interesting as it discusses the population statistics of men vs women in many different parts of the world. I find it very interesting that in nations that have been known to oppress women have an extremely low ratio of women to men (@1:12 ). I also find it interesting that only one country has a higher ratio of women to men in government, showing the women on a global scale play less of a role in politics then men do. This shows the role of women in western society as to be one of more power in relation to the women of middle-eastern societies where they are out numbered in government and as civilians as well. I found the suicide statistics very interesting as men overall had a higher rate. This could show men's role as a decision maker in society, and the stress and pressure of some of these roles are clearly taking a toll as shown in the statistics. Or this could show men's dedication to careers as supposed to family, and the impact it has had on their life. The end of the video closes with the biological fact that women and men are not very different after all. I find this to be the most important fact here as if these aforementioned societies would base their morals off this fact, a lot of the female oppression would not be present.
