Quote

"Turner, who was serving a thirty-year sentence in federal prison for trying to rob an armored car headquarters" (149)
I chose this quote because I feel it summarizes the tone and speed of the whole book very well. After finishing this book I have some complements and some criticism about it. I really enjoyed the topic of the book. The Gardner Museum heist is a very interesting art theft and one of my favorites. In the book in discusses how although the criminals who robbed the place did not seem to have much experience or a plan for what they where to steal, the art has never surfaced nor was the criminals ever caught. I find it so fascinating how the criminal never tried to sell the paintings instead has them kept somewhere. This makes me think about where the art is stashed and why they stole it in the first place. If they do not sell the paintings they cant make money from it and therefore the robbery seems like a lot of effort for not a big reward. Even though I enjoyed the topic I did not like how Stephen Kurkjian wrote it. There was so many characters I could not keep them all straight, which then made it very hard to follow. Kurkjian also felt the need to go deep into random characters backgrounds which were most of the time unnecessary. In this quote he is explaining something that happened in David Turner's past, which does not tie into Turners role in the Gardner Museum heist. This book was over all dissipionting. I love to learn about fascinating cases like the Gardner Museum heist but, the way he wrote it was not satisfactory.
