my inspiration comes from the midsummer. The warm sun against my skin, blue sky almost engulfing the planes traveling above, and tropical light violets against nice greens of all of the botanical features that inhabit the southern region of america. I want to use these aspects to create abstractions from. The colors like the pale yellow reminded me of the beautiful place we stayed at. Some songs that also helped spark this color scheme and idea was "I Dare You" by the xx, "All We Ever Knew" by The Head and the Heart, "ILYSB" by LANY, "Honey and I" by HAIM, and "Jungle" by Tash Sultana.

I used acrylic paint today because I'm not super used to utilizing it and I wanted to try. I used in good amounts to create a certain look and added water to change the intensity.
I started my piece terrified. I was so scared to mess it up that i just put paint in the middle and worked with it. I started with a dark blue and made a curved shape upward.
I was really unsatisfied with how it looked at first. the strokes were not as distinct as I wanted them to be, which was frustrating. However, when I added a new color, a light violet mixed with red, it made it look different in a better way. I'm excited to build off of it tomorrow.

Today i accomplished some satisfaction with my piece. After adding more colors and marks, it is really coming together how my mind imagined it.
For techniques, i utilized the water to spread more paint without actually using more paint. While also experimenting with white in correlation to my color palette.
I didn't use anything for my base layer. I now regret that choice as it makes it hard to get rid of white or bare areas as well as lack of creativity.
I discovered how to make my shapes look different with white paint and water. I also discovered how much paint one really needs to make texture without using something prior to painting.

These shapes are connected by color in which i used to create balance in some areas. I also see texture in each shape making them a cloud-like or smoke-type look. In order to make everything go together, I am going to add more blacks and blues to the edges and borders of my piece. This will hopefully make more unity and balance.

Obviously my skill with painting isn't very good but hopefully I will get better in time. My inspiration is "The Rising" by Jonas Gerad. This is my inspiration because the color scheme is similar to mine and it influenced me to add black and other darker colors to my piece. I tried to tie up all of the unity and balance with adding more blue shapes and black. This really did pull my art together into the piece I originally had in my head, but better.

-final evaluation-
My inspiration for this piece was the feeling of midsummer dreams in my mind. The colors I used exquisitely displayed my thoughts onto paper. However my idea evolved into a slightly different meaning and piece when I decided to add black to my color scheme.
My idea towards abstract expressionism just expanded. A year or so ago, I did a speech about abstract art and it's controversies, and I really started to appreciate and love abstract from that. Now, from this project and learning about the process and meanings, it grew even more.
From the creation of this piece I discovered how acrylic paint really works. For a long time I was sort of scared of acrylic paint because it seemed so difficult to use. However, it's not extremely complex and it is very helpful. I also discovered that painting without objectives is not the worst thing ever. The idea abstract art made me very uncomfortable for me as an artist. Now that I have experimented with it, I found that it is just a little bit of a different approach to what I normally do.
I am proud because I tried my hardest in an area I am not at all used to and it looks like how I imagined. I am fairly satisfied with the piece and the work put into it.
I am disappointed because I didn't use the canvas board. I literally had it right in from of me, but my nerves overwhelmed my decision and I just used paper. I feel like my art would have came out even better if I used the board. Next time, I will try to not be as threatened by a large piece of board.
