"Global language integration, particularly through English, is critical in today's interconnected globe. However, it is critical to implement it gradually and intelligently. Students can improve their skills in a natural and engaging way by employing immersive and interactive approaches such as group discussions, multimedia materials, and real-life scenarios. This technique not only helps students learn the language but also gives them the courage to apply it in everyday settings. For example, adding English into disciplines such as physics and art can make learning more relevant and enjoyable. Finally, this strategy guarantees that students understand and use the language in a global context, rather than simply memorising terminology."

“Before planning, listen and observe your students' needs and prior knowledge”

This rule could sound obvious, but most of the time as we begin working on a context in which policies and standards ask to accomplish a list of objectives and topics, we should consider our student's reality and context. This could be even more difficult when we come from a context in which these goals are achievable in terms of schedule and resources. However, when we arrive as teachers in a rural context in which English is unknown to families and children, we need to begin to engage the community in the language. This should be our first objective, instead of providing students with information that is irrelevant to them.

Daniela Maritza Rodríguez López

New English teacher in a rural area in Boyaca

Incorporating storytelling and background experiences inside the classroom.

Students are excited most of the times when they must talk about previous experiences and whatever happened to them years ago. It brings them different types of memories that mot of the time they love to share with their classmates and friends. Work around what they already know and experience in order to get them engage and draw their attention to the topic and vocabulary that will be tought for them to be able to produce ideas, brainstorm sentences and produce a pre vocabulary that will help them get into the topic and class lesson plan. For example in reading this allows students to activate prior knowledge and prepare to interact with not only the reading but the context and discussion. These methods acknowledge the significance of the reader's past knowledge when viewing reading as a learning process (Labiod, 2017).

"Encourage mistakes as part of the learning process."

Mistakes are an essential part of language learning, and students should be encouraged to make them without fear of judgment. Creating a safe environment where trial and error are embraced helps students build confidence and resilience. When mistakes happen, they become opportunities for growth and learning, which is more effective than perfectionism. This rule would help shift the focus from right or wrong to progress and improvement.

Arias, M.

To integrate movement, gestures, and real-world interactions to reinforce meaning and to master memory and retention in students.

Now, classes that integrate movement, gestures, and real-world interactions, "enhances both comprehension and retention by making learning more natural and meaningful" (Shapiro & Stolz, 2019). Some researches in embodied cognition suggest that physical engagement with language helps to strengthens neural connections, leading to deeper understanding and better recall in students, just like is stated in Wilson (2002).

By physically experiencing language, we let students develop stronger associations and gain the confidence to use it in real-life settings which is how you actually take your knowledge from theory to practice. Instead of passively absorbing content, they actively construct knowledge, leading to more meaningful and lasting learning outcomes.

Shapiro, L. R., & Stolz, S. A.

For me personalizing language is a key factor when teaching and learning languages since students feel the new knowledge they are learning is useful and applicable to their daily life. Therefore, something I would like to propose is that all materials and activities implemented in class reflect students’ reality. I considered this change would impact different aspects such as motivation, equity and students performance.

We could integrate joint projects where students can develop their skills mastering English as second language, but also they could take advantage of the interdisciplinary knowledge they could get from different subjects included in the joint project. It could be per semester, students could develop an research about the topic developed in the joint project, also based on that they could create different ways to work on that project proposing new ideas that could be connected to their creativity and imagination and finally they could present something to parents in which they make evidence the learnings during the semester.

I think a rule would be: "The Immersion and Application Rule." That is, every foreign language class in schools must dedicate at least 30% of instructional time to the real-world application of the language, such as conversations, storytelling, debates, or cultural activities. This rule ensures that students actively use the language instead of just memorizing grammar rules and vocabulary. It may include peer discussions, interactive projects, or even digital exchanges with students from other countries. The goal is to make language learning engaging, practical, and immersive.

As an English teacher, I have implemented the "times" for special momentos during the week. like "play time" Reading time" Speaking time" and in those moments the students only can speak in English, that have worked for me to keep them motivate and focus on the target language. So, The rule I woul creat, I would call it "Take your time" where students have specific times to do specific activities, obviously guide it by the teacher, but they are the center. Also It could be implemented in differents areas to make the all classes more interesting and in a easy way to to relate to the English language.
