As a general rule:
Don't use chemicals
Avoid cleaning chemicals and try to use natural products, like lemon, vinager, salt, bicarbonate, hydrogen peroxide, essential oils, potatoes and natural soap, you could make it like your grandmother did.
If you have to use them:
Read the instructions booklet slowly.
Air the rooms
Don't eat or drink while you're using cleaning chemicals and it's highly advisable to wear galsses and mask,
Don't mix chemicals because some of them can give off harmful gases. If you inhale those gases your health could get worse.
You shouldn't use them near hot spots or flames either.

When you do the washing, put vinegar at the end, it's better than softener
