Ever since the death of Mandela, the African National Congress, the ANC, has become corrupt. This has led to a spike in crime and racism against Africans and tribes despite the apartheid no longer in place. Acts of racism and dictatorship are spearheaded by South Africa's president, Jacob Zuma.
How does this affect the lives of the tribe?
This means the members of the Zulu tribe are a minority. They face discrimination because of their race. Therefore, they don't have as many opportunities or as much respect as their Caucasian counterparts.

What is the purpose of this rite of passage?
This rite of passage is designed to be the transition to adulthood and is held specifically for girls.
How does it contribute to the culture?
With this ceremony, the transition begins with isolation from people. After an amount of time, a period called 'Reincorporation' begins which is filled with animal slaughter, dancing and feasting. This entire rite of passage is called 'umemelo'.
Religious elements?
The Zulu believe this is an favorable time to contact dead ancestors for advice.
How does it affect the tribe?
After the ceremony, the girls are ready to be married, and the days of courting begin. Then, the girls are married to whomever they see fit. Therefore, this rite affects the Zulu by bringing more single, eligible women into the tribe.

1. Religious holiday?
The Zulu tribe believe in a creator appropriately named 'uNkulunkulu', 'The Very Big One', who is not interested in meddling in mortal affairs. No one has ever seen this god, so therefore there are no traditions or ceremonies performed in his name.
2. Other holiday?
Shaka's day is an annual holiday which usually takes place in September and involves partying and the slaughter of cattle to celebrate the Zulu kingdom's founder, Shaka. The tribe members dress in colorful, traditional outfits and gather at Shaka's grave. There, 'Izimbongi', praise-poets, sing the praises of all the kings from Shaka to the present.
Purpose?
Shaka's day is to celebrate Shaka, the Zulu's founder.
Influence on lifestyle?
Shaka's day is to eat and dance all day to celebrate.

Why?
The geography is a positive influence on the tribe. The Zulu have a large space and plenty of grass for their cattle to graze on.
