Mohammed Bah Abba wanted to help people who lived in rural area with no electricity. Therefore, he invented this refrigerator to preserve food fresh for a long time without any electric power.

I think appropriate technology is important. All countries are different from each other in terms of environment, economic, culture. So, it is important to use technology that suits each country in terms of these. For example, if an electric refrigerator had been given to the people in the rural era instead of Pot-In-Pot refrigerator, the people could not have used it because of their environment factor. However, because they were given the Pot-In-Pot Refrigerator, they could get fresh food easily. I think these inventions, like the Pot-in-pot refrigerator and life straws, are important. Due to social, cultural, and economic constraints, many people are not able to enjoy the many technologies that we enjoy. Appropriate technology helps these people to use it without paying a lot of money.
Of course, there are also appropriate techniques, such as the Life Straw, that have failed because they have to pay a lot of money. However, even if it is an appropriate technique that has failed, I think it helps people even a little.
