. If not given opportunities to do thinks on their own, children can develop a sense of guilt.

. Middle school years 6-11

. Learn the pleasure of a job completed

. Children are attending school

. They are able to have more interaction with peers.

. Difficulty moving between world at home, school, and other responsibilities may lead children to feeling inferior.

. Adolescence

. In search of an identity

. Healthy resolution of early conflicts leads to a foundation of identity

If an adolescent cannot make deliberate decisions/choices, especially about vocation, sexual orientation, and life in general, role confusion is a threat.

. Young adulthood

. If sense of identity is not developed, an individual can fear committed relationships and become isolated.

. Sexual relationships do not indicate intimacy.

. Middle adulthood

. Generativity: Adult's ability to care for another person

. Parenting is the most important event in this stage.

. Support the next generation

. May struggle finding new life purpose which can lead to a person becoming self-absorbed and stagnate.

. Maturity

. Accepting one's whole life and reflecting in a positive way.

. Coming to terms with death

. Satisfaction with one's self

. Inability to do so will result in despair
