Reflection on the teacher’s role in the age of AI

The human touch in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

The article by Haci Hasan Yolcu presents a transformative vision of the teacher’s role in a future shaped by Artificial Intelligence (AGI). The teacher is no longer merely a transmitter of knowledge but evolves into a facilitator of meaning, critical thinking, and ethical engagement. This shift places human values at the center of education, even as machines become more intelligent.

In the context of English language teaching, this means educator must become curators of meaningful experiences. Tools like Grammarly support the mechanics of writing, but the teacher ensures the cultural, pragmatic, and human aspects of communication are addressed. The teacher’s role becomes more intelligent.

Ultimately, teachers must embrace a hybrid role: language experts and AI navigators. By guiding learners in the ethical and effective use of tools like Grammarly, educators not only improve writing skills but also prepare students to thrive in a technologically complex world where humanity, not just intelligence, is the key to learning.
