This video explains how children learn new words rapidly. Children simplify words that they do not know how to pronounce (i.e. "sketti" rather than spaghetti). The children also overuse/misuse grammatical morphemes (i.e. "tooked" rather than taken.

Children have an inability to display conservation. The children's thinking changed dramatically and now have the capability to think symbolically by using more words or objects to represent something else. Children in this stage are unable to reverse their thinking. Children learn new words at a rapid pace, and the words they cannot pronounce they simplify. Children begin to use new word forms. Rules for combining words and word endings are often overused. This is known as overregularlization.
