Now, we think that using decomposing and a variety of other strategies to add and subtract large quantities is just as important as the standard algorithm.

I used to think kinder was mainly just counting. Now I know kindergarteners dive way deeper into number sense with composing and decomposing and story problems.

Breaking numbers down and regrouping helps students to really establish the concept of adding as we move into larger numbers!
