In actuality, the students are the ones that are really being tricked by their teacher.

I remember crying in class, thinking about my mother, and how much she means to me.

I absolutely loved A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon growing up. I use to love flipping the pages to see the colorful and creative artwork. The story is about a young girl, Camilla, who is teased because she likes lima beans and decides to no longer like them, which causes her to get the stripes. However, what I enjoyed most was the most simple lesson of all, which was to stay true to who you are, no matter what anyone else might think.

For a really long while I only heard one version of the story of the 3 little pigs, so this version was refreshing and new in a comedic way. The idea of having contrast in such a popular tale made this my favorite picture book growing up.

Mrs. Logan I love you forever, by Robert Munsch, is my favorite picture book. The first time I heard it, read by my adult Sunday school teacher, I cried. I then bought it and read it to my children. They are now reading it to their children. It is a wonderful tradition! It shows the cycle of growth and the parental relationship in a sentimental way.

Come Back, Amelia Bedelia
by Peggy Parish
pictures by Wallace Tripp

I loved reading even before I could actually do so. I would spread the comics page every Sunday and make up my own stories. So having to choose just one favorite picture book is extremely hard. There are so many options: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Madeline, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, Frog and Toad, Math Curse, and it goes on forever!

I loved every book in the Amelia Bedelia series with her crazy antics and very literal understanding, but I chose Come Back, Amelia Bedelia. As a kid, I remember laughing so hard at her take on what people tell her to do. It teaches the importance of giving clear directions and how sometimes someone may need additional clarity. From a teacher standpoint now, it shows that in the end, everyone is valuable in some way, even if they work your nerves.
