4. Later Cal finds out that his brother is fully converted to path and their religion
5.He ran away from path to try and hide/escape them

Effect
1. He is forced to turn to their ways of life and religion
2. Cal develops a good relationship with bear.
3. Cal gets nervous and tries to cover up his body and hide him. This causes him to be paranoid.
4. James gets fully converted and now Cal cant trust or talk to him like he used to before they got captured.

 The Darkest path takes place in a desert in California. It is a novel about a dystopian society. A war has outbroke between "The Path", and what is left of the American government. This novel starts out with Cal waking up in one of the Military bases built by "The Path". "Dr.Franks led me from the chill of the examination room into the hundred degree blast of the California desert. Camp Victory was smaller than i thought it would be. I counted no more than ten dusty buildings, a mix of re purposed civilian houses and corrugated steel huts." Callum Roe - Callum or "Cal" is the protagonist in the novel. He is only 15 years old and has one brother who was also captured by "The Path". He is very small for his age and so thin you can see his ribs as he describes in the story. He is the main character of the novel.

James Roe - James is Cal's younger brother in the novel. He and Cal both were with their mom when the Path came through and took them. James has Asthma and is larger than Cal.

Bear - Bear is a dog that Cal found one day on the street. He is what really gets the story moving because Quarles wanted to kill him but Cal stepped in and killed Quarles which put them on the run from the Path. BREAKING NEWS! Cal roe is now on the run with a dog named bear after he murdered Quarles. Sources say that Cal shot him after an altercation between the two. Cal killed Quarles because Quarles tried to kill the dog that Cal loved. Some even say it was an act of self defense since Quarles tried to swing a club at him. Quarles body was found covered in the back of a building. The Path is now searching for Cal and bear.
