Discussion Highlights:
- The narrator was expelled for plagiarizing “Summer Dance.” He took the work of a female, plaguerized, and submitted it. This scene show that the school is slightly sexist as they were appalled to find that he would copy off of a girl. His full scholarship to Columbia was revoked.
- The meeting with the author of “summer Dance” was important. It was the climax of the story. Played a crucial role in the character’s development.
- The Dean leaving the school shows how many people were violating the Honor Code. He feels bad larger on and tries to come back. Allusion of the Prodigal Son.
- School is hypocritical as they kick him out of the school, but then take him back in.
