In the Middle-earth various factions, each with their unique cultures, histories, and languages, often find themselves in situations of misunderstanding and conflict. This research aims to explore the potential of leveraging large language models to construct an agent model specifically designed to bridge these communication gaps. By understanding and simulating the linguistic nuances, cultural contexts, and motivations of each faction, the agent model seeks to facilitate better dialogue, mediate disputes, and foster cooperation. I intend to explore the intricate character dynamics so this study not only offers a novel application of LLMs in fictional realms but also provides insights into their potential in real-world cross-cultural communication scenarios.

Waqar has contributed to cutting-edge R&D projects at Metso Finland Oy, where he developed dynamic digital twins for mineral beneficiation plants and spearheaded initiatives in ore blend optimization. His M.Sc. (Tech.) thesis, completed at the Oulu Mining School, Finland, focused on pilot-scale flotation production optimization using ore blending digital twins, earning him an Award of Excellence.

Currently, as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network Fellow, Waqar is a Researcher at CERENA, working on sustainable resource engineering, real-time mining, and digital transformation for the extraction and processing of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs).

Graduated in Geological Engineering from FCTUC. Professionally i have two decades of experience in the extractive industry and currently working as a senior technician in a Public Administration body.

I applied to the Doctoral program in "Energy and Earth Resources" and my research proposal focuses on developing criteria that define the boundary separating the mineral deposit from the mineral mass in the allocation of exploration rights, specifically common sands/siliceous sands and clays/special clays.

This idea arose from the need to improve the concept among explorers and concessionaires.

The goal is to contribute to regulations that improve the provision of state services on this topic.

I completed my Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico in 2022. As a Master's Degree student, I joined the ISTSat-1 team in 2020, where I helped develop, test, and operate the first satellite in orbit to have been developed in Portugal.

My participation in the ISTSat-1 project ignited my interest in satellite technology, satellite operations, radio technologies, and amateur satellites.

This interest has led me to be a PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering, where I'm doing research focused on applying radio frequency sensing techniques on satellites, doing opportunistic signal detection to geolocate the origin of radio transmissions. In simpler terms, the objective is to track targets on the Earth by analysis of the received signal properties, e.g., frequency, power, time-of-arrival, instead of relying on information explicitly encoded on the signal. These systems have applications in search and rescue, wildlife tracking, and defense, among others. The overall goal is to work towards a prototype satellite payload to do in-orbit validation of the developed techniques.

I’m a PhD student in Materials Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, working within the Materials Processing and Characterization group at the Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear (IPFN). My research focuses on the development, characterization, and optimization of functionally graded materials based on refractory high-entropy alloys for nuclear fusion applications.

My work aims to develop advanced, high-performance functional materials capable of withstanding extreme environments, contributing to the future of fusion energy.

From engineering to AI research, my path has been shaped by curiosity and exploration. A mobility program at EPFL sparked my passion for artificial intelligence, inspiring me to shift from electrical engineering to data science. After working in an industry engineering role, I realized my true passion lay in research. Now, as a PhD student at IST in collaboration with INESC-ID and Instituto de Telecomunicações, I focus on developing new evaluation metrics for Vision-Language models, with a special interest in quantifying their confidence.
