Well, my name is Pablo, I’m a university student, I’m 20, I’m from Chile and I live in San Juan. Where I live, it is almost all forest and nature, but I don’t mind it I really love the silence and peace of living here. There is a mini market near my house where I can buy food, desserts and some other basic things, but there aren’t any specific shops, like a video game store or a sport store, there isn't even a clothe store.

I think I’m both introverted and outgoing, but normally I’m easy-going, I always try to be relaxed and calm, however in some situations I can change my usual character to other more energetic and livelier.

I have a schedule that I need to carry out every day. During the week I often go to classes and pay attention, after the class finish, I play or watch something to calm my mind and rest.

In the evening I always do some workout, when I finish, I take a shower and then I study or do housework. That’s my usual day and my usual week, the only difference is that in the weekend I always sleep too much, because I really love sleeping. Speaking about things that I love, I really like desserts, when I have the opportunity, I enjoy cooking some desserts, especially chocolate desserts. I also like anime and manga, but now I’m into light novels. I consider myself someone sensitive and easily scared, I don’t like bugs and I hate gross things.

I really want to know more about you, do you like cooking? Do you prefer relaxing or exciting places? What is your favorite dessert? Tell all about it in your next email.

Lots of love,

Pablo.

Week 9
Lesson 1

Writing practice

Santo Domingo

When I think about a place where I can relax and feel free, that place is Santo Domingo. Near where I live, San Juan, there is a town called Santo Domingo. It’s a lovely town with a lot of nature, there are big trees, different plants and flowers, it’s very beautiful. I can walk for hours just seeing the landscape and enjoying the fresh air. I find it incredible how even with such big houses and some other buildings, the natural atmosphere just mixes up with everything around.

The houses and buildings in Santo Domingo are simply awesome, the houses are extremely fascinating, with a combination of the typical nature from Santo Domingo and luxurious constructions. They are big and actually really expensive, but that’s obvious when you think about a house with all the facilities that you need in your normal day. The buildings are also something incredible, they are stylish, but every single one can make me feel relax and I adore that.

Last but not least, the beach and the coast are beautiful, you can just sit on a bench and see the ocean, it’s better if you go in the afternoon with the sun setting. The beach is nice, you can have fun in the summer in the ocean and then have a delicious meal in some of the many restaurants that are near the beach. In the winter you can have a relaxing walk seeing the ocean or just lie down on the grass and hear the waves crushing. Sato Domingo is one of my favorite places to go and I really want to go again in the future.

Word of the day
-> "Amuse" -> "to make someone smile or laugh"
-> (Verb)
Ex: If I make a funny face for her, do you think she would amuse?
Lesson 2
Word of the day
-> Spot -> "a small, round mark that is a different colour from the surface it is on"
-> (noun)
Ex: There is a spot of blood in your shirt.
Lesson 3

Word of the day

-> "(sth) rings a bell" -> "something, esp. a name, is familiar to you"
-> (Idiom)
Ex: Her name rings a bell, but I can't remeber.
Lesson 4
Word of the day
-> "cut back" -> "to spend less, do less, or use less of something"
-> (phrasal verb)
Ex: If you hurt yourself for playing piano for hours, you should cut back.

I’m… getting married! Can you believe it? Probably not, but it’s true. The wedding’s next month! You probably didn’t even know that I was seeing someone, so let me tell you everything about her.

I am so excited…I met her in a library, she was sitting next to the window and in front of me. She noticed that I was reading a romantic novel, one of my favorites and she immediately started to ask me my opinion about it. When I saw her face properly, I noticed how beautiful she was. We looked at each other for a few seconds and then she just turned red, it was lovely. Since that day we started to go to the library or a park to read and have conversations abouts novels that we read in the past. Well, you probably already know how this story ends.

She’s gorgeous, she has long straight black hair and pale skin. I love her big round black eyes and the way she looks at me with them. She is medium-height and slim. She’s really shy and anxious sometimes, but she can turn into a different person out of the blue when you speak about something that she loves, like novels and cooking. She really enjoys cooking, especially desserts, like me. She is really sensitive, you can sometimes catch her crying because of something she reads, it’s so cute. An interesting thing about her is how she works really hard in her hobbies. she won’t rest until she finishes what she’s doing, I often help her when she is doing something or she won’t sleep at night.

Sorry for making this too long, maybe you are bored now. Well I hope we can talk soon.

Regards,

Pablo.

Article

A town that I really like

I lived in San Antonio a big part of my live, I was there for eighteen years. Now I live in another city, but I will never forget my days there.

San Antonio is a port town, the coast is probably the most attractive landscape in that town, there is always fresh air, something good in the summer and something bad in the winter. Every important building is close to each other in San Antonio, the shopping center is in front of the coast and next to the shopping center there are a lot of little shops with different types of accessories and clothes which are artisanal. This place is called “Paseo” because it’s a long street, there are various types of food and dessert shops and some monuments. At the end of the street, there is a gym where I used to go.

On the central street there are some popular shops, like Javer, Corona, ABC Din, etc. There is also a museum and a few restaurants. San Antonio doesn’t have a cinema, so you will usually need to travel to another) city to see a movie. The bus stop is close to the shopping center, so at least you don’t need to walk a lot to take the bus.

Lesson 1

My perfect city

My perfect city is small, there aren’t too many people. I really love when you are walking and the only thing that you can hear it’s the sound of your steps, it’s relaxing. With a little population in my city there will be silence and calmness, but also there will be more communication, you can get closer to your neighbors and other people from the city, at least more than in a normal city.

It’s a nice place to relax and have a rest. You can walk for hours through the forest or have a date sitting on the grass, while you and your partner enjoy the lovely view of the flowers and the sound of the river. You can play some sports with your friends on the grass, like football or volleyball, or ride your bicycle and go in the fields.

The three important rules of my city are:

Be kind.

Respect others.

And respect the environment.

A lot of people can think that this town is boring, if there are only a few buildings for entertainment, like a karaoke, one small shop center, some restaurants, etc. I think the magic of this city is the opportunity to have a calm moment, live with kind and easy-going people and just forget your problems for a while.
