Shelter…We need to provide shelter that allows our students to flourish in a purposeful, relevant, and joyful environment. We can support our students in this endeavor by building awareness of social and ethical considerations as well as nurturing digital literacy and civil discourse. Risk and failure should continue to be actively taught and practiced as students begin to understand the possibilities and limitations of AI.

Included in sheltering students are detailed structures of how they are allowed to use AI. We should take responsibility for asking how AI rules are being clarified and evaluated across all departments so we can provide specific guidelines and clear policies regarding academic dishonesty. Signal…In this case, an outward message that helps one survive. An AI signal should be a flexible vision communicated with all stakeholders at SPS. Families must feel assured that we are carefully guiding this process on our campus. School communications need to send a signal that we are positioning students well for this transition to the AI landscape, balancing critical thinking and problem-solving.

Food and Water…Sustenance has an important place in the AI space as training and professional development for faculty, staff, and students. Faculty need regular and specific training geared toward different levels of experience so that AI use is productive. Specific learning can help faculty use AI as a colleague or teaching assistant.

Play…Let’s maintain a positive and playful mindset that will allow us to stretch our imagination and move from surviving to thriving. Because the speed of AI technology can be so daunting, it is imperative that we allow students, faculty, and administrators unstructured time and opportunities to explore AI tools. AI proficiency will grow with play.

I had to stay positive and strong for my students. Help them understand we will make it through and i'm here for them. As well as the faculty, admin and staff. We had to make this a new way of teaching and it would be our new safe place
