After reading the speech by Frederick Douglass and thinking about what you see in your life regarding equality and justice, make a post in the column you agree with, and give your reason why you feel the way you do.

The ways our law is interpreted along with the long history of oppressing minorities creates a withdrawal effect as we are still experiencing issues to this day but in different ways compared to back then. The minds of back then are still influencing decisions being made today and only with time will we be able to get somewhere.

There has been progress made toward Equal Justice since the time of slavery, but most of the things seen as progress are a facade to maintain an image of 'equality'. There are still oppressive and just down right racist notions in our government still to this day. There are still false notions in healthcare for POC, making it harder for them to receive the same treatment as others. The oppression is wide spread and still accepted by some, so the progress we've made still falls short of where we need to be.

Many years have passed since the times of slavery, and we can see that the nation has changed and created laws to improve the lives of those who are oppressed . But at the end of the day even if those laws are put into place, they will not aide in changing everything. It is the mindset of the people that should condone change, only then will there be true progress.

There is still systemic racism. Police are still targeting people of color. Police are getting away with murdering people of color because of the racist ideology that still exists within our judicial system. It is unfolding right in front of us.

things aren't quite the same since slavery but poc are still not getting treated fairly under the law . poc still get treated horribly because of their appearance and even killed . many rather act as if racism still doesn't exsit than speak up on how everyone is still not getting treated equally . even in the court room its not equal because now many people who killed people of color are getting little to no sentence at all leaving the families of the deceased hurt .

I cannot fully say whether we have made a sizable chunk of progress towards the complete equality of all men and women because the discrimination of Black Americans hasn't been cast down onto me due to the color of my own skin. However, I can go with the more neutral option, and partially say that, through observing the people and interactions around me, along with the society outside of my own bubble, I see more of a sense of camaraderie than has been displayed in the past. But that is what I have collected through videos and history class, and, again, the interactions within my bubble. I do believe we have much more to do in terms of creating a wider bridge for all to cross.
