- The best experiences that I have had with active learning is my high school physics class. We would often learn the content and theories through labs, which meant that we had a chance to manipulate objects to better understand the principles we were being taught.
-The worst cases were many of math classes throughout school. Oftentimes, we would simply be presented with formulas that we needed to memorize in order to solve problems and we were never fully aware of what those formulas meant or how to apply them to different situations.

- I took an anatomy and physiology class a few years ago that involved an activity in which we were meant to be determining our blood type. While the results were simple enough to read, I couldn't understand how they came to until my teacher walked me through it, which was hugely beneficial to my understanding of the subject.
- I had a biology class in high school, during which several of the labs I was unsure of how to complete the tasks or what the results meant and received very little clarification from my instructor. He would simply redirect us to the instructions, which did not provide the answers that we needed to complete the assignment.

- I completed an assignment in a history class in high school that simulated a world war, in order to better understand WW2. I was placed on team that had to work together to make decisions that were in the best interest of our country. Everyone enjoyed the simulation and was invested in the work, making it the best group project that I have ever completed.
- I have also worked on several group projects in which myself and one or two others completed a majority of the work. We were meant to divide the tasks amongst each member of the group and complete our individual portions. There was very little collaboration, so some of the portions were lacking or did not fit well with the others. Adjustments, therefore, needed to made in order to create a more cohesive final product.

- While completing my clinical hours for my degree last semester, I had to present a reading lesson to a class of third graders at Arlington Elementary. It was a great learning experience because it provided me with some insight into what kinds of challenges I will face in the classroom as an educator one day.
- Many of my math classes did not do a great job of creating authentic learning opportunities for us. They rarely presented us with real world scenarios in which we would be utilizing the formulas that we were learning in class so we were unable to create meaningful connections to the real world.

- Most of my AP classes in high school were very goal directed, in that a majority of our work was focused on preparing us for the exam at the end of the school year.
- I did have an AP class in my senior year that was much more conversational, so we had an opportunity to discuss what were learning and, in doing so, learn from each other. While that class was not as overtly goal-oriented as some of my others, I did feel that I learned more meaningful information in between those test prep assignments that I did in the classes that focused solely on test prep.
