Moishe is a foreigner so when Jews were expelled from Poland he witnessed the Nazi's actions and plans against Jews. He managed to escape and warn the Jews from Sighet and Eliezer but no one believed him, mainly no one believed the Nazi's could've done such an unhuman thing.

This is significant because if the Jews from Sighet and Eliezer and his family took the warning and believed Moishe they might had escaped or flead the country to safety. Also it's important because this event is something you look back to and think if Eliezer and his family reacted differently,their fate could've been different.

Mrs Schachter is a woman who's with Eliezer and the other prisoners in the cattle car to the camps. Her being separated from her family she got crazy and started hallucinating and started screaming there's flames and fire. Due to all her screaming other prisoners found it unbearable and hit her so she would shut up.

This is significant because her hallucinations were foreshadowing. When Eliezer and the other prisoners arrived to Auschwitz they are hit with the smell of burned human flesh.

Eliezer was advised to lie to the Nazi's about his age so he wouldn't be identify as a child and send to the crematoriums.

This is significant because Eliezer had to lie about his age for survival. If he would've said his real age it might had caused his death, a simple thing like age was a life or death decision in that situation.

At Buna the power at the central electric plant failed and when The Gestapo came to inspect what happened they found weapons in the block of Dutch Oberkapo. The Oberkapo was tortured and send to Auschwitz while the other two men that were possessed with weapons and the pipel were send to execution where Eliezer and all prisoners were forced to watch during roll call.

This is significant because the painful and cruel execution of a child made Eliezer have a new perspective in his faith, the exsistence of God. Eliezer's thoughts were, was God real? If he was then God is not the man as what they were told.

After Eliezer leg operation, news flowed around the camp that the Red Army (Russian troops) were soon to invade Buna. Prisoners were given a choice to evacuate or stay at the camp and believed in to wait for the Red Army to bomb the Camp.

This is significant because Eliezer only wanted to be with his father and would do anything to not be separated from him even if it cost him to make a hard decision, evacuating. Later on it was revealed the prisoners who stayed back at the camp were freed. It makes Eliezer and readers think what if? What if they stayed?

Eliezer and other prisoners were forced to run in the March to another Concentration Camp those who stopped running would be shot by the SS guards or wouldv'e been trampled by other running prisoners. For Eliezer he had thoughts where to finally be in rest was to give in and stop running.

This is significant because these thoughts changed Eliezer life forever. It was his first time having thoughts where he would let destiny choose his fate, even if it was death.

Eliezer and 100 prisoners were put into a cattle car to Buchenwald but the journey would take couple days. They weren't given any food that cause them to grow desperate and when a SS guard threw a piece of bread into the wagon everyone started fighting and killing each other for it. Later on Eliezer tells he witnesses a rich lady throw coins to two young boys as entertainment and watch them fight over coins.

This is significant because in this moment Eliezer realizes in a desperate moment there's no such thing as humanity. Having witnessed a different situation of desperation was also witnessing a situation of no humanity.

Eliezer's father death was slow, everyday he grew weaker and would constantly ask for water, till one day Eliezer woke up and saw that his father was sent to the crematoriums.

This is significant because experiencing a death of a loved one you'll be in pain and experiencing types of grief but in Eliezer's situation where he experieced near death and witnessed cruel murder he didn't know what to feel when his father died. Eliezer felt guilty for feeling relieved but relieved he didn't have to take responsibility of his father. It was a lot of emotions for Eliezer at once he didn't know what to feel.

After being freed by the American troops, Eliezer goes to the hospital after experiencing a form of poisoning. In the hospital Eliezer sees himself in a mirror and only sees himself as what he was in the concentration camps, a corpse.

In a situation where you experience something terrible for a long time and recover from it, it doesn't mean you can forget it. For Eliezer he was able to move on but he would always see what he resembles in the time when his life changed forever.
