In Bois Sauvage, Mississippi, a hurricane is expected to arrive. In its path is a town which is home to Esch's family. She is pregnant at fifteen years old, and her father is an alcoholic, hardly around to care for his children. Esch has three brothers named Randall, Junior, and Skeetah. Motherless and alone with her siblings, they try to prepare for the coming storm. Together, they nurture one another where love is absent and survive.

Based on a true story, Arn Chorn-Pond, a young boy must defy the odds in order to survive the Cambodian genocide of 1975-1979. When soldiers arrive in his hometown, Arn is just a little kid, who sells ice cream with his brother and dances to music. His life changes forever when the soldiers march the entire population to the countryside. He is separated from his family at such a young age, and is assigned to a labor camp, where he is forced to work under a blazing sun. One day, a soldier asks if anyone can play an instrument, and Arn volunteers, even though he has never touched an instrument in his life. This decision saves his life, but brings him into the killing fields, where Arn is handed a gun and forced to become a solider.

Enter Mia Warren – an enigmatic artist and single mother – who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town - and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides. Suspicious of Mia and her motives, Elena is determined to uncover the secrets in Mia's past. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community. But her obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs.

Never Fall Down By: Patricia McCormick

Tell Me Three Things
Everything about Jessie is wrong. At least, that’s what it feels like during her first week of junior year at her new ultra-intimidating prep school in Los Angeles. It’s been barely two years since her mother’s death, and because her father eloped with a woman he met online, Jessie has been forced to move across the country to live with her stepmonster and her pretentious teenage son, and to start at a new school where she knows no one.

Just when she’s thinking about hightailing it back to Chicago, she gets an email from a person calling themselves Somebody/Nobody (SN for short), offering to help her navigate the wilds of Wood Valley High School. Is it an elaborate hoax? Or can she rely on SN for some much-needed help?

In a leap of faith—or an act of complete desperation—Jessie begins to rely on SN, and SN quickly becomes her lifeline and closest ally. Jessie can’t help wanting to meet SN in person. But are some mysteries better left unsolved?
