In a way the lines spoken by Duncan stood out to me they were loud and clear when I read them. I understood what the quote meant and in a way could relate to it. I wasn't confused as to what Shakespeare was saying, but rather saw the point he was making. What I think the lines mean may be different than what was implied, but the thing about writing plays, novels, or poems is that each person sees a different meaning to each word, line, phrase. What I see in this quote is that at the end of the day hard work pays off, doing the right thing counts, and that even the smallest of things can make a difference. Overall that everything that we do that is selfless, for others, that consists of sacrifice, of giving, of doing your best, or working your hardest, it won't be forgotten and in one way or another still will count, still be seen, still will shine like a star. Most people can see themselves in a position similar to this where all they have done, all they strive for, if not now one day will be worth it, that I can relate to. As in Macbeth, it was thought that it was Macbeth who was noble, but he lost his shine, but Banquo even after his death was seen as worthy and noble , or Macduff after all he's been through deserves the title of noble. That reflects a lot of what is still important today, that matters to us.

When I arrived at the unit with a middle aged woman, I asked if she needed anything, when she said no, I replied with " Have a good evening and signs of nobleness like stars, shall shine on all deservers". The woman didn't take it very well... I think she thought I was being rude, since her response was " what? Excuse me? Were you talking to me , bye" She turned and walked into the unit in a rush. That I didn't expect.

While the other said that she was half awake and asked me to repeat what I said three time before she gave up. When I explained what was going on, my two friends who are sisters argued about the meaning of the quote.

At that point Macbeth was noble, he had fought bravely for the king and risked his life, his acts were talked about by all. This image portrays that, Macbeth who fought for what was right not what he gained from his actions, and it did pay off his "signs of nobleness" led to him being named Thane of Cawdor, this shows that at a time Macbeth was noble and he had shined.

What leads to acts of nobleness is making the right decision, especially doing the right thing instead of the easy thing. Which comes back to act of nobleness or acts reflecting ethics, that making the decision that is based on ethics and morals, that isn't selfish. When looking at Macbeth it is obvious that he took the easy way out in a way taking fate into his own hands, becoming king through sin, rather than taking the righteous path and siding with his own devil. While Banquo refused to surrender to desire and lust, taking the higher ground. Being noble has to be earned and doesn't come with out a fight.

When one does a noble deed it is done out of humility and that will always be a source of light on that person a shining, a reward, even if isn't of material gain, what one has done will pay off one day.

Light and dark represent good and bad , and the fight between the two, both internally with characters and externally among each other. Being noble revolves around deciding to act the good or bad side, following the light or hiding in the shadows. With Macbeth he cowers in the shadows after what he's done, no longer wearing the name of noble, rather that of coward at the end. Light is a symbol throughout the play with those who are good represented as light, as those who are noble will shine like, Banquo and Macduff, and the fight between light and dark, Macbeth and Macduff.

A Tale of Two Cities

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way — in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens pictures life in England and France during social unrest portraying how humans can be the cruel, yet at the same time how humans can be kind. The themes of good and bad, right and wrong are present in this novel showing the struggle to do the right thing or to take the easy way out. Especially during the time of the French Revolution where part of the setting takes place doing the wrong thing to guarantee ones own safety was very easy, placing someone else in harms way in exchange for protection was common and doing the noble thing rare. As seen in Macbeth, choosing the noble path, or making a noble decision was a struggle and not taken by many as, Macbeth did and took the easier route to power. In A Tale of Two Cities, a character (Sydney) committed an act of nobility and humbleness, he took the blame and fall for another character which led to his death, his actions were out of love and selflessness. This relates to how noble acts will shine on those who deserve them in that Sydney's name lives in those he saved's memories and will be carried on even after his death, what he did will always be remembered.

At the event President Obama spoke of stories of veterans dating back to World War Two and as recent as today. America is united through her veterans with their diverse backgrounds, ethnicity, and stories reflecting what America is made of. Also reflecting what today is still important in society, people, civilizations, humanity, still hold noble acts, ethics, and integrity to an esteemed position. As in Macbeth choosing the noble path is always the better choice. Veterans Day is the day stars shine and deservers are honored, esteemed, and remembered.
-Unity of Veterans Day

This article is the story of a firefighter who retired after forty years of service, what is significant is that he has been a volunteer firefighter and EMT. This isn't a world event, or current event concerning everyone, but it exemplifies a lot of what is portrayed by Shakespeare and is important for different reasons, especially since the smallest of things can make the biggest of differences. Reading through the article this man has done so many for all the people around him and in return has asked for nothing. This is what Shakespeare was pointing out in Macbeth. When someone does something that is noble it is selfless, it is heroic, and it is humble, and that still exists today in different forms, but it still does. "Signs of nobleness like stars shall shine on all deservers" This man Pete Kirby has been noble and in the service of other, he will be remembered his"shine" will be the gratitude of all the people he's helped and that is because he deserves it.
-A Man of Selflessness, Heroism, and Humility

After Clinton lost the presidential election she delivered her concession speech wearing a bright hue of purple, which stands out from her standard color of red, white, or blue. The color purple symbolizes many different things, the most important being unity, a combination of blue and red makes purple. Clinton was referring to the Nation coming together with red and blue representing the Republican and Democratic parties, rather then separated Clinton showed them as merged, coming together, to bring Americans closer to one another after the dividing election. The actions taken by Clinton represent nobility, honor, and choice between right and wrong. After her loss, Clinton addressed the nation as a uniting force rather than a dividing one. She wanted what was best for America. not for Democrats, not for herself. That demonstrates what is in Shakespeare's words, her action and reaction will be seen as noble.
-Clinton's Bipartisan Purple

In comparison to what I first thought of this quote I still see to be true, what we do that isn't for us, that is out of hard work, that is done out of the right reason, all of that counts I still see that. But there is more to this than meets the eye, for each individual it signifies a different meaning holds a message that relates to the person and their own experiences. At the same time though these words are true and unite people, since people want to see acts of kindness in the world, nobility is still important in today's society maybe not in the same terms of Shakespeare's, but still a part of humanity. More so making a choice that is for other or for the greater good is not easy, and I think that comes back to what Shakespeare meant with his reference to the stars, starts glow bright at night lighting the darkness, but also stars are very far away, that some times they seem unattainable. In that not anyone or everyone can be seen as noble for whatever reason without effort, it must be earned. When Shakespeare used this quote he was referring to the brave men who had fought alongside Duncan and that they would be rewarded if they deserved it, I think that Shakespeare was also referencing outside of the plot line too, that anyone who is noble, or honorable, or trustworthy, or hardworking, will be rewarded, in one way or another. In literature the author will say one thing, and each reader would interpret the words in a different way, light, or meaning, that goes for these words too.
