Many times as a teacher, I implemented the "write it on a sticky note and put it on the wall" activity with my students. Padlet will let those sticky notes have images, links, and videos AND be available with practically any Internet-ready device.

Teachers can use Padlet as a place for gathering ideas, and then sharing and modifying them later. Teachers can use this tool as a bellringer activity, predicting activity, collaborative note-taking, living webquest, whiteboard answers, poster presentations, interactive storytelling, research gathering, and brainstorming.

Often, I explain something very complex and ask if everyone understands. One student answers yes and then I continue the lecture with the rest of the class not understanding fully. Mentimeter is an audience response system that gives the teacher a fun and innovative way of turning class knowledge or opinion into data. Teachers can create an opportunity for students to express their opinion anonymously too.

Teachers can meaningfully use this tool for effective formative assessment (pop-quizzes or exit tickets). By using Mentimeter, teachers can monitor student learning on an aggregate level. Students can find their owns strengths compared to the class and teachers can ascertain whether the class as a whole has grasped the concept.

This tool is great in fostering student interaction and receiving constant feedback to drive learning in class.

In regards to formative assessment, teachers can check for understanding at any moment in class and adjust instruction as needed. In regards to student engagement, students can interact with ideas instantly, ask questions, offer feedback, and brainstorm solutions in the flow of instruction for increased content mastery.

Kahoot is a compelling and easy way to engage students in formative assessment activities. Kahoot's quick pace, suspenseful music, and instant scoreboards keep competition lively and learners engaged. Students will definitely be asking to play again and again, and many will love the challenge of creating their own Kahoots.
Fast, right-or-wrong feedback is provided on students' devices and the class screen. The multiple-choice quizzes may tend to favor memorization, but having students create Kahoots allows for higher-order learning.

Wow! Teachers and students can navigate through the web more quickly and efficiently by using Tinyurl. It transforms long and confusing URLs to shorter URLs. Shorter URL aliases are useful in the classroom for teachers and students because they are easier to write down, remember or pass around, are less error-prone to write, and also fit where space is limited.

This school year, all of the students in my classroom received Google Docs accounts and I was kept quite busy getting students up and running with the new tools, then discovering innovative ways to use them as effective tools for learning.
Sharing and commenting on GoogleDocs provide students with opportunities to receive immediate feedback on their writing from teachers and peers in the 24/7 classroom.

Completing this technology proficiency portfolio has made me realize that there are so many fun and effective Web 2.0 tools that teachers can integrate into their lessons to engage and excite students. More importantly, these Web 2.0 tools contribute to student achievement. I learned that digital media (Web 2.0 tools) serve many roles in teaching and learning. Digital media can be used to teach curriculum content, store data, create/edit video, edit photos, collaborate and so much more.
Through this process, I learned that the use of digital media (Web 2.0 Tools) to support instruction is vital. How teachers use these tools is going to make a critical difference in how we measure our students success and how they are supported to meet 21st century skill sets.
As educators, the use of Web 2.0 tools is transforming our work, and more specifically the way we support students in the classroom. As schools bring more technology into their classrooms, teachers will in turn strive to put more technology in their students’ hands.
For this important reason, I will embrace the use of technology integration in my daily work because the fact is that Web 2.0 tools are here to stay! The sooner we, as educators, learn to harness their wonderful power, and how they can bring learning alive in the classroom, the better.
