When I think about sustainability, I think of it as a way of improvement to the society's living standards. What this means to me is using the best method of reducing the waste of resources being used for our everyday needs. For example, the trees that are being cut down everyday for educational uses. Trees that are being cut down for papers, pencils, and tables. As well as for metals, glass, and things that we use daily for society. How I practice sustainability is recycling waste that is recyclable and taking the oil changes to an auto shop that wants it. Also, instead of throwing bottles and cans into normal trash, I would put them in a separate bag. I would take it to a recycling place and earn money back for recycling. 

When I think about information literacy, I think of a context that contains lots of details that has to do with using knowledge to determine the main important point. Also, to understand what the whole context is trying to prove. What this means to me is to have the knowledge to think critically to solve a problem or puzzle.

What I would like to learn about these topics are sustainability and information literacy. This is the first time I saw these two terms and would like to learn a bit more about these two topics. I would also like to know how sustainability is important for our society. Also, how I can put these two topics into use whether it may be just in everyday life or educational wise. 

Lights are one of the major things that are needed in the dark to light up the room or house, especially at night. Light bulbs have existed for a long time. There are many varieties of light bulbs to choose from that can range from the quality being good or bad. Some may be cheap or expensive. However, some may not know that the type of light bulbs that are being used can harm the environment. There are light bulbs that are created to reduce the waste of materials. For example, the wires or the materials that are used to create the light bulb are made from recyclable waste. Some may not be made from waste that are recyclable and can be harmful to the environment. There are many different types of light bulbs that people can choose from, but the kind of light bulb that can help save the environment is LED light bulbs. LED light bulbs do not contain mercury and can be recyclable. Not to mention, it can help people with their electricity bills. This is a win-win for the environment and electricity payers.

This research is important to me because I feel that light bulbs are not really something that is brought up a lot, especially when we use it in our everyday lives. Like many others, I did not know that light bulbs play a part in sustainability until I was educated about the certain types of bulbs that can save money and energy. I also want to bring out the importance of how buying the correct light bulb can not only help the environment but help others to budget their money. I know that money is also something that we all struggle with and that is why I think buying the one that can help people save money is important. What I hope to learn from this topic is how light bulbs are a part of sustainability and the materials used to make this item. Also, I would hope to gain more knowledge about the amount of power the light bulb ignites using recyclable materials. 

Question for my Peers: Do you use specific types of light bulbs or just randomly grab something off the shelf when purchasing light bulbs? Do you know the differences between the light bulbs you buy for your homes?

One of the rhetorical devices being used in the article would be pathos. When the researchers mentioned how recycling can have a good impact on the government, "Better recycling methods would not only prevent pollution, researchers note, but also help governments boost their economic and national security by increasing supplies of key battery metals that are controlled by one or a few nations. "On the one side, [disposing of EV batteries] is a waste management problem. And on the other side, it's an opportunity for producing a sustainable secondary stream of critical materials," says Gavin Harper, a University of Birmingham researcher who studies EV policy issues" (science.org). This helps prove the author’s argument by encouraging the people through the wisdom of outcomes of recycling vehicle batteries can help with making the resources enough for the nations to use for other purposes and sustain the environment. There are many good benefits if people recycle the materials that are inside of the batteries and reduce the amount of new materials being put to use to create new batteries. By stating these things how it can greatly impact us, it creates motivation for the people to recycle as much as possible for other great things that the government can do for the people with the unused resources.

Using the IL framework, the article would be part of a continuing conversation because electric cars are a new development of cars that requires engine motors. Engineers are slowly trying to build more of these electric cars that leads to more batteries being put to use. As these electric vehicles are being developed, in the future we will be seeing problems with metal wastes. This article can be used as a source to consider the wastes and consequences it may have if people are planning to make more electric vehicles for the future use. Scientists can use this article to see where they may need improvement in order to make the electric vehicle something suitable for the economy to use and continue developing. Also, if people ever come to consider wiping out engine motor vehicles and replacing them with electric cars, as engine motor vehicles do pollute the environment. 

Victim: An English professor named Karen Zandarski, who worked for seven years was found lying on the floor on Thursday afternoon at 1:55PM on October 2nd, 2017, at Anonymous Street in Modesto. Investigators said the victim was electrocuted near her laptop. 

According to some investigation, her neighbor, Sam said, “I saw Karen coming out home around 12:30 PM and she came out with a Starbuck drink called Peppermint Hot Chocolate. I waved hi to her as I was in my front yard doing gardening. It’s unbelievable to hear that she was murder.” Investigator also asked if she had any pets and the neighbors said she was unsure if she had any. 

On the scene, the police said there was a burnt smell and spilled drink. They’re assuming that it may be the Starbuck drink mentioned earlier by the neighbor. The victim does not have any injuries or bruises so, it’s doubted that she was harmed or threatened by anyone. It does not look like the victim has anyone else in the home besides her. She was found lying on the ground in her living room. They found that the laptop was connected to a charger and the battery percentage was at ten. The police said what may have caused her death is that the drink spilled on the laptop, and it was also connected to a charger that created shock to her as her hands were still on the laptop.
