It challenges me in a way that it emphasizes the importance of various subjects and discipline application and having known the importance of a classroom being learner-centered. It questions how can you really balance both of these two and maybe in paper it is easily answered but when application happens, can you really consistently watch yourself balancing both?

-Alyssa Lyn

Subject-centered curriculum challenges my personal philosophy in teaching as I believe that children have their own unique ways of learning and are more engaged when they learn by doing. With a subject-centered curriculum, the focus is more on content delivery than on the learner’s interests or experiences, limiting flexibility and real-life application, which are essential to meaningful learning. - Jasmine

I see the value in content mastery and teacher-led instruction because they help build a strong foundation and provide structure. Through a clear guide and strong foundation, it helps the students to stay focused and on track. But I also believe learning shouldn’t be one-way. My philosophy centers on learning by doing and being inclusive, so I believe students need more opportunities to explore, ask questions, and connect lessons to their real lives. I believe the subject-centered approach is most effective when combined with student-centered methods that would encourage curiosity and foster personal growth of the students.

As someone who values meaningful, active learning, I find it limiting in terms of engagement and flexibility. I aim to bring in activities that let students apply knowledge in more relevant, relatable ways.
