The concert piano, has 88 keys and 3 pedals. 

It is very versatile. Sometimes you find it in the orchestra. There are many pieces written for  the piano as a solo instrument. Very often it is accompanying another instrument, or with a few other instruments in a small group called "ensemble" (which means, playing together).

The first pianoforte was built in 1711. There were similar keyboard instruments before this date. I will introduce them to you another time.
