Montresor is clearly insane for locking up Fortunato like this, as well as many others. Montresor seems to be the antagonist to most, but scholars say he is the protagonist. He might not have had the Amontillado, but he was baiting Fortunato, so Montresor could torture and kill him. Something may be up with Fortunato, as he laughs at his own demise.

Amanda Brown
Fortunato drank too much at the carnival and so that made him helpless. It made Monressor's evil quest easier because he could easily take advantage and trick Fortunato. The short story does not give much information and thought about Fortunato so he is kind of a suspicious character. The story makes Fortunato seem nervous when Montressor is covering him with the blocks because he makes a joke out of it and starts laughing. Due to him being intoxicated, Fortunato acts foolish and clueless.

I created my visual describing Fortunato in the shape of a wine glass because he goes into the tunnels with Montresor to get Amontillado, a type of wine. I described him as foolish because he seems very childlike. Also, he seems clueless because he misses all of Montresor's hints as to what he is going to do to him. He is considered a drunk because he was intoxicated while in the tunnels. Finally, he is greedy because even though he has had a lot of alcohol, he still wants more to himself. Fortunato has many negative qualities

Fortunato is also clueless since he is intoxicated. I drew his hat because that symbolizes him as a jester. The chains are for him hanging as he is chained. While he's chained, he laughs...... hehehe, hahaha.... He is foolish because he doesn't know what is going on. He is also unaware of the situation. Fortunato is obnoxious while he laughs.

Kyler Luna
In my picture, I drew Montressor's hand pouring out one lone glass of wine. If I do recall, after Montressor had buried Fortunato behind the army of bricks, he left a glass of wine next to the grave. The picture I drew made me think of Montressor setting the glass down and starting to regret his choice. In my apparent vision, seconds later rage and jealousy corrupts his guilt and he pours the remnants of the wine out. To me, this drawing of Montressor pouring out the wine symbolizes that even though Fortunato was locked away and could never reach the wine that was left out for him, Montressor pouring it out prevents him from reaching that last drip of decency inside to fulfill his yearning for the Amontillado. In my picture, I accused Montressor of being a murderer for not disregarding the absurd amount of wrongs Fortunato had done him and instead letting his envy speak.

It is irrational of Montresor to wish something as irrational as death upon his old friend, Fortunato. Montresor is blood-thirsty and seeking revenge on Fortunato. His deceitfulness tricks Fortunato into becoming intoxicated. Montresor'/ goal is for Fortunato to be killed without a trace, without consequences. He seems scrupulous to Fortunato, although he is the opposite, due to all the amontillado. Perhaps Montresor is jealous of Fortunato and has been awaiting this opportunity for a while.

Fortunado is hard to characterize because the story isn't from his point of view. However, it can be fond that Fortunado is very proud because of the way he states he's better than Luchesi, and this is symbolized with the lion. He is also thoughtless because of the way he bore injuries on Montresor and didn't even know, symbolized with the crossed out brain. Fortunado is also naïve, symbolized with the sheep, because of the way he didn't catch onto the hints anad foreshadowing with Montresor's trowel and went into the catacombs without a second thought. Finally, he is foolish, symbolized with the court jester hat (which is also what he was wearing when he died), because he played right into Montresor's hands.

Montresor found that it would be easy to kill him because he will believe anything because he is drunk. Fortunato acts clueless and foolish. So Montresor through his torch in the brick wall before he sealed it so Fortunato would burn to death.

Fortunato is introduced to the story as an extrovert. He's an outgoing, exciting character. Fortunato's appearance was a little ironic the night he met Montresor, he was drunk and dressed as a jester coming from a party. The fact that Fortunato was intoxicated didn't help him at all, this made him clueless and an easy target. The brick wall symbolizes that Fortunato was locked up, the wine class represents that he was drunk the night he met Montresor the jester hat symbolizes Fortunato's costume, and the tombstone is a symbol of what happened to him.

Fortunato seems to be a very outgoing man. He gets very intoxicated at a party and foolishly follows Montresor, his captor, down into the catacombs. Montresor continues to hint him into what is going to happen, but Fortunato’s absent-mindedness kept him from catching onto Montresor’s evil scheme. Fortunato is very naive, and this is reflected in the way Montresor effortlessly tricks him into his trap. Montresor continues to lead him deeper into the gallows, and only until the chains are constricting Fortunato to the wall does he realize his predicament. Fortunato, who has begun to sober up, quickly becomes hopeless after struggling for a short while. As each brick is piled on, Fortunato loses faith and slowly resigns to his fate. If it weren’t for his thoughtlessness, Fortunato wouldn’t be sealed away in Montresor’s dank and dirty catacombs. I drew a jester’s hat because, not only was Fortunato wearing a jester costume, but he also played the part of the fool in this story.

Taryn Sieja
Montresor was definitely the antagonist in the story. He can be described as dangerous, since he did kill Fortunato for unspoken reasons. He also could be called heartless, for possibly killing someone over a small disagreement or problem. Montresor is also revengeful, since he seeked revenge on Fortunato for whatever he did to him. Montresor is also clever for getting Fortunato drunk, making him vulnerable to the plans that he had for him, which were the smart ideas of bringing Fortunato into a location far underground to kill him, where he would be left surrounded by many other dead bodies.

Fortunato and Montresor run into each other and Montresor begins to seek revenge. Due to the fact that he was drunk, Fortunato was clueless that Montresor was leading him to his death. Montresor led Fortunato to his death by bribing him with more alcohol or the "amontillado." Fortunato is chained up and buried behind a brick wall by Montresor, and remained there until he died. the jester hat represents that Fortunato was a jokester. The tombstone represents the death of Fortunato. The wine and glass represents that Fortunato was drunk the night he died. The Brick wall shows that Fortunato was locked up behind the wall. The skull shows that Fortunato died in a cruel way.

Fortunato is insane, he just doesn't know it. He seems like a naturally happy person, but the alcohol is blinding him from the truth. Fortanato can also be too trusty, even though he was intoxicated, he trusted Montresor in the whole situation. In Fortanato's defense, he was drunk, but another thing to think about is why Montresor was so upset. Another possible word to describe Fortanato is aloof, maybe he didn't consider Montresor's feelings and made him upset. Another possibility is that Fortanato was so focused on the amontillado that he didn't think twice, maybe he was greedy and needed the drink. EIther way, Fortanato died a cruel death whether he deserved it or not.

Montresor was completely insane. He would seek for revenge on his friend Fortunato. Fortunato insulted Montresor which caused Montresor to have to kill him. Montresor used very dreary, precise words that would clearly give away that he was planning on killing Fortunato. Montresor's dark and violent nature just made him seem like he was always thinking of Fortunato's demise. Montresor was a liar and was very deceiving. Montresor tricked Fortunato into thinking about the amontillado while his whole plan was to chain Fortunato to a wall and leave him there for death to consume him. I put down a picture of creepy, dark, dre pictures to represent the feeling that Montresor gave off.
