Setting

The setting takes place on a spaceship called Godspeed, in the future. On page 14 in the book it says, "There are hardly any locked doors on Godspeed. No need. Godspeed isn't small - it was the largest ship ever built when it was launched two and a half centuries ago." This shows it is in the future on the spaceship. The setting is most certainly important. The ship contributes to almost all of the conflict between two very important characters, Elder and Eldest

Amy was born on Sol-earth and was frozen alive to be transported to the new planet 300 years later.

Antagonists

There are multiple antagonists. Orion, Eldest and Amy. Orion works in the record hall. He is quiet and stays in the shadows but while he goes unnoticed by almost everyone he is stirring up a pot of trouble. He has been going into the restricted level that most people don't know about and unplugging the frozens. The frozens are the people that are necessary or wanted from Sol-earth to inhabit the new planet. Amy was one of them but she was an unnecessary. She got the opportunity to go because her parents were important skilled people. Amy is an antagonist as well as a protagonist. In some situations amy acts as an antagonist and in others as a protagonist. As an antagonist she disagree with most things decisions and actions made by the leaders of the ship because she doesn't understand how it has run for the last two centuries. The last antagonist is Eldest. Eldest and Elder disagree on how the ship should be run and how they should control the people. Eldest thought the only way to control them with peace was to drug them with something that took away all of their emotions. Elder thought they should know the truth about everything and let them work together to resolve the problems of the ship.

Conflicts

One conflict I think is between Sol-earth and Godspeed through Amy's eyes. She compares and contrasts the two places which makes her miss Sol-earth more than anything. It makes her sad and upset to know that she will never back to her original home ever again. The second conflict is how Elder and Eldest disagree on the ways to run the ship and the people who live on it.

Theme

I think the main theme throughout the book is don't underestimate people abilities. There are many situation in the book where this theme is present. One example is when Eldest drugged the citizens of the ship to control them through their drinking water. He did that because he didn't think that they could handle the truth about the ship. (The ship won't land on time and they will never see the new planet).

The article I chose talks about life transitions. It connects to the book because Amy is longing for her past and angry about what is in store for her future. She had to transition from everything she knew on Sol-earth to life on Godspeed.
