This year we have talked about disconnect and how the lack of understanding can change someone's outlook on life. We also talked about how a powerful person can easily brainwash people into thinking the most observed things and how the status quo and the need to be ¨normal¨ can change people's opinions. All of these things really had me thinking during this quarantine. Since the death of George Floyed our county has been divided between a couple of groups. For example the blue lives matter movement which supports cops lives and the all lives matter movement witch as said in the name it supports all lives but these two movements are not bad concepts but most of the people who support them are trying to put down the black lives matter movement. For example if 5 people come to the hospital one has a paper cut one has a scratch one has a little bump one has a stubbed toe and one has a gash in their leg who should be tuned to first, the person with the gash in his leg and in the scenario of minorities and oppression black people have been misstreed the most..

The first book that i am going to be talking about is Monster by Walter Dean Myers it showcases a 16 year old boy from harlem who had been accused for murder. This book shows how where your from can make you guilty until proven not instead of innocent until proven guilty. Also this book shows how a prosecutor can manipulate a person so much to the point where they confess for something they didn't even do for example in the book it said ¨he was trying to convince himself he wasn't guilty.¨ (Myers) This book also showed how the time spent in jail while on trial is terrifying. it showcases how in prison your life is at risk every day and as a teenager you do not have the mental stability to go through that. In the book it says the best time to cry is at night because the sounds of people getting beat up cover up your noise.

In Night by Elie Wiesel it shows how authority figures can change someone's opinon on someone in an instance. For example when hitler came to power he immediately blamed jews for all of germany's failures and people used it as a bail out and in germany what was said by higher ups is what happened so with the political power hitler had he could forcefully makes one believe something especially things about jews like that they had horns and other things like that but the fact that the status quo change so many people is absurd. if you could think about how many non jewish german people thought that what hitlrt was doing was wrong but didnt have the courage to stand up aginst him and as shown in night you can see that many people did not belive in hitlers belifs but they dint have courage.in the quote ¨Never shall I forget the nocturnal silence that deprived me for all eternity of the desire to live ¨ it shows how people were so dehumanized that they didn't even feel like they were human.
¨

In to kill a moking bird by Harper lee shows the unfair trial of tom robinsin being falsey accused of rape. This book shows how evident racism was in the early 19 hundreds. It shows how white privlige is a thing for example in to kill a moking bird the jury was only white males and in alabama at the time most people were very racist. So at the start of the trial the desison had alredy been made that tom robinis was gulity even thugh it was obvius that mayella ewll just didnt want to have a bad reputaion evean if it cost a inoccent mans life. In the quote ¨people generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for¨ this quote shows that most racist people at the time didnt care if a minority did something good they didnt care if they built the countrey all they want hear is bad things that minoritys did so they can use it as a cop out for one of their problems.
