         <description><![CDATA[<p>After observing a student and recognizing ongoing learning difficulties in some area of learning, I will begin documenting patterns in behavior and academic performance. I will have an informal meeting with parents, but I have to approach this carefully as learning disabilities are not accepted in the culture. I will consult the student's other teachers and start collecting work samples. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>After having evidence that the student is likely struggling and that they might have a learning disability, there should be a formal diagnostic assessment performed on the student by the school counselor. If a learning disability is assessed there should be a formal meeting with the parents.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><br/></p><p>This meeting is dreaded in school because here having a learning disability is considered shameful and many parents refuse to accept it. Often, they do not accept the referrals made to outside places that specialize in the particular learning disability and even refuse support from the school counselor.  I could give parents resources such as websites and print outs to help educate them and reduce the anxiety surrounding the issue. </p>]]></description>

If they can do tasks in their native language, then it is unlikely that their problem is a learning disability.</p>]]></description>

This support can include differentiation, scaffolding, visuals, mnemonics, extended time and chunking tasks.  We should monitor the student's progress for a few weeks. If there is no improvement, then we should go to the next step.</p><p> </p>]]></description>
