I feel a deep sense of joy on the dance floor. I love to dance, to dance with people, to have music move me, to share in joy, to dance for love and freedom, to watch people enjoy themselves, to be in community. To quote Eddie Amador, "Not everybody understands house music. It's a spiritual thing, a body thing, a soul thing." I'd argue the same for techno, and I don't mean EDM.

This song stays on replay. In the words of Octavia Butler, "God is Change" and change is always happening and always needed. Being able to declare that I'm here, and in a lot of cases I'm still here is something I don't take lightly with so much going on. I grew up on a lot of different genres of music, with my Pops being an audiophile as well. Jazz was something that I took a loving to at a very young age. Ellington was one of the first I fell for, but then got older and found out a lot of his standout pieces weren't written by him, but by a man named Billy Strayhorn. Billy never got the fame and recognition he deserved because he was very much introverted and he was a Gay Black Man with all of his active years in the industry being pre-civil rights. Much like Bayard Rustin was the one who was instrumental in the rise of Dr. Martin Luther King and main organizer for the March on Washington, Strayhorn was the same for Duke Ellington. If you listen to Satin Doll, A-Train, Lush Life or most of Duke's early major hits, then you've listened to Billy Strayhorn.

I've been jamming all morning!!! Thank you for sharing this as I too LOVE techno and miss the days of being in open air parties and night raves!!! There's such an energy there, and you're right, it's a spiritual thing. It's something that you feel in you soul and the person next to you is feeling it, and there's an I don't know how to describe it, a peace? a calmness? A groove? It's like everything in that moment is right with the world.

It's not lost on me as to the location of this particular Boiler Room, and the joy that everyone has just being able to "be".
