Complete your mock feedback session as planned, learners to take copies and annotate as you need. Following the review give them a 'heads up' that next week you will be doing a 'Next Week Check' (or when it is appropriate) you will select a random question from the paper for them to repeat as a starter, it might provide a good opportunity for peer assessment along with use of the mark scheme to self-assess. How has their answer developed from the review session, can they see progress?

Rather than writing short notes about each answer on every question (eg "well structured, good knowledge, mostly addresses the question but quite descriptive") rate each question on a given set of criteria (eg. 1. Answering the question, 2. Knowledge & understanding, 3. Use of evidence, 4. Critical evaluation, 5. Structure & organisation, 6. Clarity of writing)

Summarise key, common issues into a PP to use in an exam review session. Pick particular questions or points for students to rewrite individually or present students with a different, but similar, question to answer in pairs for feedback and discussion.

In English, we keep student's timed writing in college across the year so this is normal practise for us. I use a ppt summary of key feedback and a lesson starter if appropriate. I also encourage them to take photographs of the feedback and give them their folders to look at past essays before new timed writing tasks. Students without phones can write the feedback out.

Photocopy the paper of a student who has done particularly well (with their permission!) and give it to students for them to have a look at, or scan in the pages and put them on Teams with your marks visible.

Through marking (of mocks or in general) you usually come across common errors or individual topics that students in general struggled with. It may be worth revisiting these topics as a whole class exercise - use the mark scheme to aid discussion and understanding and get the students to re-do a particular question or get a similar question for them to have a go at - this could even be done as a starter in the following lesson/ homework to help check understanding.

I've made a feedback/review sheet for students to identify areas they found easiest/hardest to gain marks and what they need to do to improve their grade in specific parts of the paper - and how they are going to do it. They also have space to note down specific help they feel they need and finally, what they've learned from doing the whole process.
