Soon after his ceremony he given an "Heart Shaped Herb" by Zuri (mentor). This leads to a pursuit leading to his capture with the help of Agent Ross. 

Still in custody, Klaue escapes with the help of Killmonger, while Agent Ross gets gravely injured. To save him, T'Challa brings him back to Wakanda. 

Afterwards, Killmonger betrays Klaue revealing that Killmonger is actually Wakandan. T'Challa's father sees this as treason and a fight breaks out resulting in the death of T'Challa's uncle. After learning this T'Challa realizes that his idols are not who he thought they were. 

Soon after, Killmonger arrives to Wakanda with the body of Ulysses Klaue demanding the throne of Wakanda. Here we learn that Killmonger was the son of T'Challa's uncle. 

Killmonger challenges T'Challa for the title of King of Wakanda. During their fight Zuri intervenes leading to his death. His allies travel to the home of the Jabari tribe where we learn that they recovered T'Challa's body. With the Heart-Shaped Herb they healed T'Challa. 

Once again T'Challa enters the Ancestral Plane.
