Persuasive Influence of Power

Power is structured into stable and enduring social relations

Works through institutions to produce regular and persistent patterns of action.

Power brings consequences to society because people exercise power for a reason.
Power is central to the idea of human agency that people behave in a certain way to follow the command.
Power is always related to a society where power exists in and through social relations. It is because power relation involves the intention to produce a particular effect or the desire to see a particular effect occurring.

There are two agencies in power: principal-agent with the capacity to exercise power; subaltern - person receives/obeys the power exercised.

There are two forms of power: corrective influence and persuasive influence.

I will mainly focus on the persuasive influence of power which is further divided into signification and legitimation of power. The former refers to cognitive symbols, ideas, and representations that lead people to define situations in a certain way. The first row shows that the driver will stop the car when a sign appears, and the driver obeys this sign spontaneously he knows the consequences and penalties of being disobeying.

The legitimation of power refers to the value commitments that limit willingness to consider action alternatives. There are authorized people and organizations whom you believe their values, and you obey them automatically because you consider them as fitted to speak on behalf of values.

Therefore, the second row and the third show the cause-effect relationships between legitimated principals and subalterns. When NHS posted a notification of preventing COVID, subalterns obey because people believe that NHS is fitted to speak on behalf of certain values in terms of preventing COVID.

Social stratification and leadership

Force and manipulation can be organized into the more complex structures of coercion and inducement

First row: High

Corrective influence of power ——Authoritarian State

1. Power is granted entirely to those entrusted with power.
2. The principle of an authoritarian state is terror; The aim is to seek calm. But this calm is not peaceful at all. It was only a temporary calm before the enemy was brewing to occupy the city pool.
3. The so-called maintenance of the state is the maintenance of the monarch, or in other words, only depends on the condition of the monarch's secluded deep palace. Whatever happens, as long as it does not directly threaten the palace or the capital's city pool, it will not touch the nerves of ignorant, arrogant, prejudiced people. As for the knock-on effects of developments, they are not going to inquire, foresee, or even imagine.
4. If a king is reduced to a lower order, he will be considered dead, and another monarch will ascend to the throne. Treaties signed as prisoners will be considered null and void, and his successors will not ratify them.
5. Force does not come from the state, but from the army that built it
6. The emperor's family is like a country, extremely fragile in itself, but its parents are extremely powerful. It looked huge, and in an instant, It could fall apart
