Also, note that people in Korea will show you respect by bowing and that's how you show respect. Koreans don’t wave or shake hands to say hello or goodbye to their seniors. You need to bow to elders to show courtesy. Also, did you know that there are different degrees of the bow to show politeness? A fifteen-degree bow is a very common way of greeting elders, and a forty-five-degree bow is to show the highest degree of politeness. Pro tip: Pay attention to 한국 드라마 (hanguk deurama) “Korean dramas.”

People will speak to you with formal language. Do you know how to say a formal and informal “hello” in Korean? You can not say 안녕 (annyeong)—which is an informal greeting in Korean—to someone who is older than you. 안녕 (annyeong) is used when you’re speaking with someone of the same age or someone who is younger than you. If you want to greet an older person, you need to use formal language. In this case, you need to say 안녕하세요 (annyeong haseyo) which is a formal greeting in Korean.

Also, being older isn't as great as it sounds 😂 you are expected to pay for lunch/dinner. You may be expected to pay for many activities such as lunch, dinner, movies, and so on if you’re older, and this is accepted in the workplace as well.

Basically what happened at the store was Madeleine, my dad, and I were doing the secret Santa shopping and my mom had told Madeline and I to bring money to get our friends gifts, and I knew exactly what I wanted to get you two, but I didn't want to tell my dad because it had to do with BTS and I felt that my parents where really judgmental and thought that I was stupid for liking that stuff. So we went to Walmart first, and we were trying to find gifts for our siblings because for the secret Santa I got Hayden, and Madeleine got Kiernan. So, I don't really know Hayden so I had no idea what to get for him, and Madeleine was looking at legos for Kiernan. After she picked out a lego set for Kiernan I didn't know what to get for Hayden cus I don't talk to him. I felt like my dad was getting annoyed at the fact that I didn't know what to buy, which was making me have anxiety. So, in order to get time to think about what to buy Hayden, we started looking for a gift for Madeleine's friend. But, she couldn't find what she was looking for (a green frog plushie), so my dad started getting annoyed because he had expected us to know where to find the things we wanted to buy. I started saying that the stuff that I wanted to get would be at Target instead of Walmart, because I only knew of BTS march being at Target and 5Below. And my dad started saying that he would drive us to Target but that would be the last place we would go, and that it would be super busy and stuff. When he started saying stuff like that it made me feel really bad and made me feel like I was being a bother because I wasn't used to shopping, and it made me feel like I was disappointing him and wasting his time. And that kind of made my brain shut off, and so we went to Target and Madeleine found another present for Kiernan (dad put the lego set back when I asked him to take us to Target) and Madeline also found a present for her friend, so my dad started to walk around the aisles telling me to find something for my friends (you guys). But I couldn't see any BTS stuff, and my dad started getting impatient (I think), and because I didn't want to make my dad angry I told him that I couldn't find anything and that I didn't know what to get. so my dad took us over to the video game area to look at stuff for Hayden, and when I didn't find anything for Hayden (I did see 3 different BTS albums though and I would've bought them but I only brought $20 and each of them was like $30 T_T). So, since I couldn't find a video game or anything for Hayden my dad took us over to the mens clothes and he started looking at the t-shirts with designs on them, because he knew that I wouldn't have been able to find anything for Hayden (which I had told him, that I didn't know Hayden or talk to Hayden so I wouldn't know what to get him). My dad didn't pick a shirt for Hayden and asked me what I was planning on getting you guys, and because I was too scared/embarrassed (because I thought he would judge me for wanting to get you guys BTS stuff) to tell him, I just said that I didn't know which made him upset and he started saying stuff like "you guys said that you knew what you wanted to buy your friends." but eventually we just left the store and went home for dinner.

Anyway, when we went home for dinner, my mom asked us if we got anything that we wanted. And Hayden, who always figures out who got who and ruined the whole thing, asked if we had gotten anything for him. My dad told him that Madeleine got her stuff but I didn't get anything. My mom asked why I didn't get anything and my dad proceeded to tell my mom about how I had said that I thought I knew what to get you guys, when I really didn't. That's when I got upset and I started to cry (at least from what I can remember. I can't remember a lot because I was a tired mess and I had been crying and I was upset and everything. Since everything else that I remember is all jumbled up I'm gonna try to describe it in the way that I can make sense of it.) So, my mom started talking to my dad asking him why I wasn't able to get my friends anything, and he started saying stuff about how I wouldn't tell him what I had been planning to get and how I hadn't even described what I wanted to him, so he couldn't even help me look for it (I'm pretty sure that is when I started crying harder). My mom immediately said that it was probably because I wanted to get you guys the stuff from that one boy band. And just for a random fact, my mom had trouble remembering their name she started saying "B-1, B- something." and she started having trouble remembering, until Madeleine corrected her by saying "BTS." (which not gonna lie. I thought it was kind of funny that my mom couldn't remember the last two letters. At least now that I'm thinking about it, back then I was too upset to find it funny). Anyway mom and dad kept saying stuff, and my mom had turned to me and asked me why I couldn't find anything and I responded with "shopping with dad gives me anxiety" which made my parents ask me why shopping with them gave me anxiety and I tried to tell them that whenever I shopped with dad I felt like I was being pressured and that he expected me to know where everything was and exactly what I was going to get. And then Annabelle (who sits beside me during dinner) said that she knows how I feel and asked me if I took my pill that day, when I told her that I didn't she said that it would make sense for me to feel pressured because whenever she tries to go shopping without her pill her brain doesn't work right and there's so much stuff for her to look at and it overwhelms her. When my mom heard that I hadn't taken my pill she asked me if I had done my school, and I told her that I hadn't, which made her mad and she asked me why I didn't do my school. and I told her that I was tired and didn't feel well and that was why, she told me that it didn't matter if I didn't feel well or not and that I have to do school even if I don't feel well, and that being tired wasn't an excuse because I could've worked on my History anyway. And so my mom told me that I had to do school work the next day (today), and that I wouldn't be able to go shopping tomorrow (today) because I had to do school work. Sometime after Annabelle had started defending me and my mom had started asking me about school, my dad had started talking about how he hated it when we "lied" to him about absolutely random stuff. And my dad started saying that he hated that his kids lied to him about stuff that didn't matter, and he brought in Hayden's "secret girlfriend" as an example. And he was talking about how Annabelle had a boyfriend that she didn't lie about and that he thought she was completely stupid and that he didn't really care if she had a boyfriend or not as long as she didn't lie to him about it. and then he started telling me that he honestly didn't give a crap whether I bought my friends stuff or not, but he told me that when I didn't tell him what I was planning on buying that it was exactly the same as lying to him about it. And that if I had something I wanted to get I should just tell him about it instead of trying to hide it because I was "embarrassed" about it. And basically at that point I was a crying mess, and I just wished everyone would shut up. Anyway, after that my parents finished eating and Hayden and Annabelle finished eating too and it was just Madeleine, Kiernan, Sophia, and I eating at the table and Sophia did that thing that annoying little kids did where they would say stuff in a "singsong voice" and they would be brats with it, and she started singing about how I was crying, and I told her that if she didn't shut up I would snap her neck. Because I was really upset, and by the way those where my exact words. But anyway, I finished eating and went to my room, sent you guys the message, and then went to bed. And I woke up at 8:30 which was when my mom was putting my siblings to bed and Madeleine and Sophia were fighting and being annoying like they do literally every night and I was yelling at them and telling them to shut up, and they were making me mad but I was also really upset about dinner so I started crying again and Madeleine was like "she's angry so she's crying again, isn't she?" and I yelled at her and told her I was NOT crying (even though I was). And, yeah, last night was a complete and total mess.
