Beth Elshoff Library visit: - I visited Virgil Grissom Elementary in North Scott to see how Amy Lamfers genrefied her library. I loved the way she had the categories she had chosen posted on the wall above the shelves the books were sitting on (for taller shelving) or on the top of the shelve edge for the smaller shelves. The signs matched the sticker on the book so it was easy to see what was where. I really loved the way she had covered the old reference books in bulletin board paper and used them as markers for different sections of the fiction and each section of the genres. A great way for kids to be able to find different sections - they stood out and a nice way to use some old reference books. I am trying to genrefy Madison's library and Amy gave me some great ideas to use. Thanks Amy!!!

I met with other Davenport Teacher Librarians at the AEA. It was great to connect with others and learn about new things. As a group, we learned more about Destiny Discover (Follett's newest edition to Destiny) and the Collections feature within it. We also had a hands on discussion about robotics and resources available for checkout from the AEA. We spent some time problem solving issues with DCSD's 1:1 initiative and discussed aligning ISTE, AASL, ELA, Math, 21st Century skills, Science, and Social Studies Standards with a library curriculum. It was a great day of learning!

The North Scott Librarians met at the AEA and worked on the task of unpacking our standards. This is going to be a long process but we got a great start. We were able to work as a group to discuss each and every standard and what it meant to us. We were able to share information with one another. It was great to have the time to work on this.

I'm so glad we were able to do the library caravan to see all the different libraries. I really enjoyed going to all the libraries and getting new ideas to take back and use in my library. I really liked the emoji voting board at the Rivermont Collegiate school to vote for their favorite Iowa Children's choice books as well as the problem solving designs they had throughout the library for different stories. I liked seeing how everyone's libraries are cataloged. I've been playing with the idea of genrefying and this gave me a chance to hear what people liked and disliked about it. I also loved the front facing books for the younger students at the Dewitt elementary school. I loved the series stickers and shelf markers to help students find certain books at Paul Norton as well. Very helpful and such a cute idea! Thank you to the ladies that had their libraries open for us to see. I hope we can do this again in the future.

Visiting the libraries of several different schools was a great opportunity for me to see what others are doing, which gave me additional ideas for my own library program. Some of the ideas I found most helpful for my own library include the use of the shelf marker signs to guide students toward areas of popular books at Paul Norton, the Chromebook lab area at Ekstrand Elementary, and the puzzle tables and makerspace ideas from several of the libraries we toured. Thank you!
