Three million woman and girls in Yemen are at risk of domestic violence. That is two out of five woman in risk of domestic violence. There are also unfair laws that woman have to follow in Yemen and they can be arrested or fined if they do not follow them. In Yemen, woman cannot marry without the permission of a male. That is a completely unfair law.   A woman should be able to make their own decisions. Of whether they want to marry or not without a male having to approve or not. Another unfair law in Yemen is that woman do not have the same rights as men in a divorce. If a woman wants a divorce they must get permission from a male. If the male denies the rights of divorce, the woman is stuck in an unhealthy relationship. These laws are not only sexist but unacceptable and should need to be abolished because they are unfair.  The roots of child marriage in Yemen is poverty. The girls get sold for money for their families. If there is not enough food for all the children. They sacrifice the daughter for money. But the sexist laws on woman are a result of the islamic and their beliefs.

Not a lot of woman are educated or attend school. Two out of three girls in Yemen can not read. Instead of getting a chance to grow up and go to school, Yemen girls are usually forced into child marriage to raise money for the family. Sixty percent of girls are married before age eighteen. Early marriage causes girls to not have time for school. A Yemen girl, Haima interviewed by CNN says, "My father married off my sisters, and wants to marry me off by force, but I don't want to get married," instead Halima wants to attend school and be educated. Many fathers marry their daughters off so the husband can earn money for the wife’s family. Many girls are forced to be child brides and are married to men they are not in love with. Many are abused and not treated right. These problems in Yemen need to be stopped because this is dangerous for girls.

Why should the rest of the world be concerned about this issue? rotherhams https://padlet.com/rotherhams/kk2hmjueg2ae/wish/324749863 The rest of the world should be concerned about this issue, because women's rights are human rights and they are being abused in Yemen.  There are many examples of the abuses woman face in Yemen.  Yemen hospitals always treat men first, and woman are treated like second class citizens.   In Yemen, girls are often forced to marry someone without their consent. It’s a criminal offense to force someone to marry you or another person in most of the world.  No woman should be in these conditions and living under these unequal laws. We as world citizens and as countries should put pressure of Yemen to help woman and girls who face this situation.

There have been peace talks but a lot of times fights break out at them. The Humans Rights Watch is trying to abolish the laws but the Yemen government is crashing. But a lot has been happening to address child brides in Yemen. The Yemen woman union has been finding houses for run away child brides. The girls are running away from the unsafe and dangerous relationships they were forced into. They give educational and medical needs to these girls.

I hate living in Yemen. Father wants me to marry this guy who is twice my age. I wish mother was still here. I know she would keep me in school. My mother was a strong feminist and went to protest every month about woman's rights. But she is not here anymore so I need to make a plan becuase in ten days, I will be married off for $400.00. It's like I am cattle getting auctioned off. My family thinks it will give me a better life and that they can’t afford me anymore.  I know this is not true. I think Father just wants the money. We live in a very big house. Father has a very good job. I can’t believe this is happening.   I know if I don’t run away before I get married off, I will be treated very badly. I know this because my friend had her wedding a year ago and she was abused and not treated right. When she came back to her family they refused to help her.  It is legal here to rape and have sex with someone underage. I am only 10 and want to grow up and get a good education. There are only three ladies in my village that have been educated up to college. I know the chance of this happening is very low, but I have hope.
