It took 11 years to build (1875-1886). It was designed by Gustave Eiffel (the same man who designed the Eiffel Tower).

It was constructed to celebrate a Rhodo's victory over the ruler of Cyprus in a war.
One of the old seven wonders.
It's approximately the same size as today's Statue of Liberty. There is a disagreement of how the statue stood. Some people think that people sailed between the legs of the statue, while others think that it was impossible.
